Opinions...
    #688626 -

I checked some of the flowers this past Sunday, and they looked mostly cloudy so I decided to start flushing the plants with Final Phase. Today, I was able to check the flowers a bit more closely with a microscope rigged to an iphone and now I'm not so sure any more.

I need opinions on how long these ladies have left based on pictures of the trichromes (if that's possible?) S
and then should I switch back to the regular flowering regimen?

Thanks. :happyweed:

Yeah.... my thought's as well. /sigh

Do you think it's possible to guess how long they still have left based on the pictures?

can you set the white balance on your phone? it will take regular color photo's if you manually set it with a white sheet of paper.

Weird.... it didn't work for me, but I don't think I can alter the color too much because of the light... but I'll try to flash a few pictures tonight when the lights go out.

I did manage to take more slightly better pictures, I shielded each shot from the light as much as I  could with with a blueish LED.

I'm a bit freaked out by this... because I started flushing nearly a week ago. Albeit, there's some nutrition in the flushing solution I'm using.

Would it be foolish to put these girls back on regular nutes for however long they have left?

to me in the new pics a lot of those trichs look cloudy and in a few pics i saw an amber trich or 2.

I find it difficult to get a good look with my loupe while my lights are on. My loupe has a lil light on it. When i check my plants i do it when the lights are off.

I only grow in soil so i can't say if continuing your flush for more than a week would be a good idea or not. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Yeah they look a bit more mature than the previous pics.  I'm seeing some that are amber, and a good amount that are cloudy.

What week of flowering are you on?  They're both 8/9 week strains, so you should base when you flush off of that since you don't have a ton of experience.

I would say that if you are not too horribly worried about harvesting a week or so early, I would just roll with it.

As far as just reintroducing nutes, that would be no big deal at all.

I'm actually 2 days into week 11, so I started flushing at the beginning of week 10. I know from previous experience that flowering can be delayed. I had some trouble with temperature during August.

If I reintroduce the nutes now say for a few days, won't I have to flush again after for a week?

Always flush for at least four weeks, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Uh...come one.  That just isn't right Sarah.  If you have an 8 week strain, and your in hydro, that plant isn't getting any new nutrients for half of it's flowering period.  4 weeks is an extreme about of overkill.

Yes, I realize four is extremely high, but I have a reason for my madness.
There are just and extremely high number of rookie growers here in Colorado that are just not flushing resulting in some very gross bud.
I am concerned first and for most with taste when it comes to my weed,
especally seeing as how I run the majority of my harvest as shatter anyways.
A three to four week flushing period,
(granted usually more on the side of three, I was perhaps a bit hasty when declaring four )
has always worked wonders in the taste department.

No it's not necessary. I use a flushing solution, therefore just have to use it for one week.

I've been growing for a fair minute Sara, and 2 and 4 would make no difference if you are doing things correctly.  It would only effect the yield you are getting.  Unless you are just loading up your soil with amendments.

When deciding how and when to flush for harvest, the method of how you grow is going to come into effect.  Take TLO.  You only give plain water the entire time to begin with.

Now standard soil or hydro really only needs 2 weeks.  I've don't a decent amount of experimenting with this, and have come onto the 2 week by trial and error.  4 weeks would just starve out my plants and diminish the yield significantly.

I seriously fail to see how that's too much.
For eight weeks that's a 1:3 flush to nuyes ratio...

Really?  Half of it's flowering time it doesn't have access to nutrients?  You really don't see how that will make a difference?  The 4th-6th weeks of flowering the plants are in the process of a vigorous growth spurt.  Depriving them of nutrients during that time frame will have a serious impact on their growth.  Sure they have some stored up in the leaves, but not enough to not have an impact on the plant.

It would be getting nutrients 6 of the 8 weeks.

If you flushed it for two weeks, but if you flushed it for 4 weeks then that's half of the flowering phase.

Where did you learn about this 4 week flush, because it doesn't seem to corroborate with anything from much of anywhere?

thats a 1:4 ratio now...

Different mediums/nutes require different flushing techniques. With Canna in pure coco coir I can feed up to the last week, and if I stop feeding 2 weeks ahead the plants will stop growing. I'm at the point that I don't flush the pots with water, but just feed it plain water for a 7-10 days and the plant will turn out great.

It comes down to the CEC (cation exchange capacity) and a few other properties on how much the medium will hold onto nutrients, and exchange them with the plants/flush out. Its much higher in soil, lower to zero in hydro. Your plant needs ~week to deal with the nutrients its absorbed, provided new nutrients are not available to the plant.

I don't think it was acid, I think you said something wrong and then backtracked really awkwardly.

If you're growing in a medium with a low cation retention and exchange potential then even a 1-week flush would be sufficient. The plants consume the stored nutrients almost immediately from their interstitial fluids, you're basically just trying to flush the nutrient residues from the ionic retention points within the growth media.

And that my friends, is my first post in a Cult forum in way too many months.
