Brown "dead" spots?
    #682179 - 08/20/13 02:30 PM (10 years, 7 months ago)

So I noticed today that two of my plants have brown "Dead" spots on a few leaves.

Soil Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Seed

2. How old are your plants? 2-3 months.

3. How tall are your plants?
Ones a foot the other almost a foot.

4. What size containers are they planted in? One is square and is 6 and a half inches wide,8 inches long, and 8 inches high. The other one is round and is 10 inches wide and 6 inches tall.

5. What is your soil mix? Kellogs patio mix

6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use and how much you give per watering? once every 4 days and I water until the soil is saturated.

7. What is the pH of your water?7.0

8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio?
3-1.5-4 Pure blend pro ( I haven't fed them for about a week and a half to two weeks due to getting nute burn on the lower leaves.)

9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? No

10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 150 watt hps

11. How close are your lights to the plants? 1- 1 and a half feet (one is taller then the other)

12. What size is your grow space in square feet? About 2-3

13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? Usually stays around 85-88 in the later afternoon and night but during the day it stays at 90-92. Humidity is 30-40 percent.

14. What is the pH of the soil?7.0

15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? No

16. How much experience do you have growing? Not much

Some people on another board think the pH is too high and I am having a lockout which is causing a cal/mag deficiency.

At 7?  no way it would be pH lock out.

If it is only one or two spots, then I wouldn't be overly concerned.

But it does look like you have the beginnings of inter-veinal chlorosis.  So something may be going on.

Flushing and dropping your pH to about 6.5 sure as hell wont hurt.

If it is inter-veinal chlorosis how would I stop it?

Also all I have is a tablet pH test kit so all I can read is 1.0,2.0,3.0 etc. I am gonna try this weekend to pick up a digital one.

Also is flushing the only way to bring down the Ph?

Flushing with the appropriate pH would be the easiest way.

The inter-veinal chlorosis would be stopped by flushing with a low amount of nutrients and an appropriate pH.  Then on the last gallon give a dose of nutrients.

The drop pH testers are pretty good at getting you in the ball park.  And in soil, you only need to be in the range.  It's very forgiving, so I would be surprised if it really is the pH.  But regardless of the cause, flushing is usually the solution.

Alright I'll start flushing it.

Thanks for the help.

Edit: How much would you recommended as a small amount of nutes? Like teaspoon or a 1/4 of a teaspoon.

Now just so I have this right I will flush with 2ml of nutes then right after flush with 7ml?

Is there any time I need to wait between flushes?

No, flush with 2mls per gallon, then on the last gallon that you would be giving them, add 7mls of nutes to it.

I took a look at my loupe and it appears I have some bugs (it was a moving black dot)

Would these cause brown spots?
I also noticed some leaf "scaring".

Could be mites, it's possible they're causing the problems.  But that's not typical mite damage.

Well I sprayed them with some organocide so hopefully that controls the situation.
