I live in a pretty rural area surrounded by orchards so I've got every fucking bug you can think of. Would switching to hydro eliminate the gnats from reproducing by having no soil to live in or can they still find a way in if I do nutrient film tek kind of setup?

Sounds more like you need to add filters and seal up your grow space to fix this problem. There are all sorts of issues you can run into with bugs in hydro as well.

Yeah I'm working on ideas to make the room more like a clean room. Do the gnats still reek havoc on roots in hydro or are they more prone to hang out in soil? The only other bug I struggle with is spider mites but eliminating my tent might help that issue out if not eliminate.

I never had issues with gnats, but there are quite a few other bugs that can thrive in hydro systems.

Any particular infestations and remedies I should study on before its ready? Never had bugs before. This is a new challenge for me.

All of this is easily researched man. Do you not have any marijuana growing books yet?

Of course I do. Talking with other growers about what I'm doing is more fulfilling than reading what Jorge has to say about what he's doing. If you don't want to give advise you don't need to I already have a plan in mind. If you like talking about your relevant experience then I'm all ears.

an inch of play sand over the top layer of soil on your plants will keep the adult gnats from laying more eggs and they will eventually die off in a week or two. it worked well for me.

Besides a little algae growth I never had to deal with any of the issues that can plagues a hydro grow.
