Today at work I built a "Bakki Shower" to filter and de-gass our aquaponic setup. The theory here, is that dirty fish poo water, solids and all, flows in to the top. As water flows over the hydroton in each drawer more and more solid waste is removed from the water. The constant trickle and contact with air, sufficiently off gasses unwanted CO2 and the like from the water as well. Algae grows on the hydroton and helps breakdown the solids into useable nutrients. This is awesome for two reasons, the first being that more of your fish waste is utilized, instead of cleaning out filters and throwing out fish poo (if you do that..). The second reason being that you dont need to clean this out often if at all. The algae continues feeding on poo, the poo is constantly being eating ergo removed.. Ill be hooking it up to the aqua system on tuesday!
