ph soil tester.

so I just now realized that the ph tester I ordered is a soil tester. Does this suck? Are they able to test the ph of your water? I haven't gotten it yet but after lurking a lot of these threads something tells me I got the wrong thing.

You will want to buy a digital readout ph tester for water. Some people use test strips that are commonly used in pools and spas, However, a digital ph meter is recommended. Best wishes :-)

I prefer general hydroponic's ph drops for testing water. No batteries to die, no need to calibrate.

Come to think of it, I did get the GH ph up and down kit with the test indicator shit in it. Is that gonna do the trick?

that stuff works but it can be a bit difficult distinguishing the colors. I've dropped two meters into water before and they both broke just as fast, but those indicator drops have always been there.

That is what I use. Use the testing bottle and testing solution as directed and you should be golden.

Buy a quality Hannah instrument that's water proof and well made, and you wont have that problem.

The diretions say use a half tube of water and 4 drops. Thats 4 ml. Can also use 2 ml and 2 drops. Get more test. The same results.
I love these drops.

I have been using a Soil Master. It's cheap, made specifically for soil, has lumen readouts, soil ph and soil moisture. Ive been using it for about a year and it just now stopped working. Definately got my money out of it. I'm also certain its just a battery.

I broke down and ordered a third cheap pH meter for the time being. $9 direct from hong kong. I'm going to see about waterproofing this one somehow. This is just to tide me over until I get a quality meter and actually have the money to invest in the storage/test/calibration solutions. When its all said and done the one I was looking at was really expensive, around $3-400 if I recall. I know a guy who has the same meter and he said its well worth it, but get all the stuff for it.
I think it was this one...

Again, Hanna PH testers don't seem to be citing use in soil?
Are Hanna testers usable in soil or just hydroponic applications?
I know he's asking for a water ph tester, but I think that is a applicable question considering the title of this post.

Dunno if that helps.

You don't need to spend 3-400 for a good tester, mine was only about 100.

That was the approx cost of the Blue Labs pen.
I got that pen, with the Calibration kit.
Seems very well made, IMHO.
Take care,
