Querkle - Anyone else growing? Feed Schedule!
    #655785 - 01/21/13 11:31 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Currently cultivating a TGA Seeds Querkle (mother plant).

I am perfecting my vegetative feed/watering schedule.  I wanted to post my current feed for the plant which has been good.  Wondering if anyone else is growing this strain and what nutrients they are using.

Mild nutrient (every other water)
Cal-mag 5 ML
Pure Blend Pro Grow 3 to 3.5 ML
PH ~ 6.8

Full nutrient (every other water)
Cal-mag 5ML
Hygrozyme 6ML
SuperNatural Stay Green 5ML
SuperNatural 20-20-20 Fert [pinch, adjust as PPM needed)
FoxFarm Bloom 2ML
DynaGro Pro-Tekt 1-2ML
PPM Range 450-500 about
ph ~ 6.6

Watered with 1gallon container then I add another gallon of:
Cal-mag 5 ML
Pure Blend Pro Grow 3 to 3.5 ML
PH ~ 6.8

To blend it all and push water since its a 10 gallon pot.
Just experimenting, let me know what you think

If your just keeping a mother alive you probably don't need to go crazy with the nutrients. I just use a 2 part 'grow' (sensi grow) formula and water it from time to time. vegetative growth is easy, its the flowering that demands a lot.

are you trying to grow it crazy big then butcher it into a bunch of clones? or just a bonsai keeper?

I agree.  I'm not sure what your medium is, but I'd suggest a rich compost-based soil mix and a simple "grow" fertilizer whenever needed.

Currently it is 10 gallon air-pot(smart pot)

Mixture of soil is:

Roots Soil
Black Gold
Happy Frog
Perlite

was originally in all-Roots soil before i transplanted it from 5gal to 10gal.

I fed the mother that last feed, didn't burn.. looks greener, I am just looking for new growth now and seeing what happens.  Time to take some cuttings ;P

Here is a picture to help things.

She looks sloppy because I am saving allot of those branches for cutting since its a mother plant, and I have been getting them big for todays cloning ;P

Sometimes just feeding your plant will make it explode in growth. You might try just giving it a good feeding and watch it respond.

you've got like a million clones on that, how many are you trying to take?

My medical buddy needed a new set of clones for his place so i offered to take 8 for him and im taking 4 for me..

ill end up only growing 2 of the 4 i keep because i don't need a buncha plants just 2 would be nice to get about the same size.

i just finished lolly popping her somewhat and clearing unwanted growth and spreading and tying down the branches to open it up..

heres a picture, next to it is my home made aeroponic cloner bucket :P

enjoy

I took about 35 clones from a AK-47 that was *way* less bushy than your mother.

Good luck,

JD

Ya, there's at least 50 clones you could take from that plant.

looking at the photo's though, those stems look as if they're turning brown, which can be more difficult to get roots. If your having problems, try butchering that thing down to about 1/4-1/2 of it's current state (too much and it wont be able to sustain itself) then let it get some fresh green stems shooting up. It'll take you an extra few weeks letting the plant regrow a bit, but should help rooting time/success.

for aerocloners I use the scrape technique, where I use a fresh razor and slide it sideways down the stem to skin it.. Do it on 2-3 sides and make sure there's no loose material hanging. I've had good results with just plain water, but I'll add a little bit of IBA, via superthrive and they will root faster. Gotta make sure the water feels lukewarm, too hot/cold and it will take awhile. You can control the temp in the cloner with the pump/timer, I usually go 15 on 30 off, or 15 on 15 off, but had to recently add a heat pad wrapped around it for winter.

I use scrape technique also, Scrape up the part that I dip in clonex and then put in bucket..  I didn't put any additives in water, but a drop of superthrive maybe if things get super slow.

Thanks for the good advice.  Whats your opinion on cutting leaf tips?

superthrive is B vitamins and IBA, i use half a capful, so about 2-3ml in 2-3 gallons. Anything with IBA should do the trick, no need for expensive cloning gels and whatnot.

I like cutting the larger tips off, I pack them in close sometimes, 3 to a clone collar if need be. It makes it easier to check and maneuver without a bunch of tips pointing everywhere, catching on things.  It also shows you which leaves were original to the cutting.

Good thinking, I thought it was more to get the plant to focus on root growth and less on leaves.. but that makes sense now ;P  thanks again, I will have to toss 1 or 2 ml of superthrive in and see what happens.

Changed things up.

Started using this,

1GAL MIX:
Pure Blend Pro Grow 5ml
Cal-mag 2.5ml
1 drop superthrive
1-2ml Dynagro protekt

STATS:
ph came to 6.8
ppm 450

FINISH:
runoff was ph 6.4

How I fed to my 10 gal plant:
gave it a total of 2 gallons of that mix.  shes liking it allot better i think.

will post pics in like 3 or 4 days to show any improvements.

Get rid of the superthrive, there's no need for it.

I switched to using

Dynagro Grow(5ml/gal) + Dynagro Pro-tekt(2ml/gal) + Hygrozyme(4ml/gal) + Calmag (2ml/gal)

watered 3 gallons in 10gal pot @ ph 6.3

should i be religious about only running ph6.5, how do other feel about ph fluctuation and 'exactness'.

Top growth is a lime-green, with very-very mild brown dots on just top growth, also purple stems.

was exposed to 29 degree temps for 5 hours about a week ago, i wont say why but it was necessary.  anyways, any tips?  what do you think could be the problem.

obviously cold shock.. but its growth besides just the very very tops is amazing. oh and i also FIM'd the tops so thats why.

being its in a 10 gal and only 600ppm feeding should i bump up the food, or lay off?  plants like 3feet tall atleast

Yes i think so too.

I have set a new regiment as of late.  This time no fooling around.

A 3 part schedule, done as follows.

Water #1
5ML/gal Dynagro Grow
5ML/gal Calmag

ph 6.5
Watering 2-3 gallons

-

Water #2
Hygrozyme 5ML/gal
Calmag 5ML/gal

ph 6.5
Watering 3-4 gallons

-

Water #3
Dynagro Grow 5ML/gal
Dynagro Protekt 5ML/gal

ph 6.5
Watering 2-3 gallons
-

Repeat as needed for mother plant (I am in a 10gal pot, plants 3 feet tall)

The idea behind my watering is that for water #1 is a feed, water #2 is hygrozyme flush of nutes and such just to clean out the soil naturally, and water #3 is to offer food and strengthen branchs and leaves.

Do not run Calmag with Protekt its not a good combo, thats why i alternate on calmag and protekt between feedings.. and calmag in the middle to assure plenty of that is available.

Will update with pics if this fix's the lime on top growth.  So far its a booming plant.. lovin' life

Peace all.

Oh and PH is the most important, if its not exactly 6.5 according to my calibrated PH meter.. I WILL not use it, ever.. my personal rule.. fuck around with ppm all you want within reason, but PH is no joke.. 6.5 on the DOT for soil, no exceptions lol.

After a second watering with food, lime colored leaves and various brown tips have indicated to me its over fed.

Flushing with ph 6.5 water, 2ML/GAL Calmag & 4ML/GAL Hygrozyme.

8Gallons total flush, should use more but oh well.
