Water
    #653999 -

One possible obstacle to growing in compost at the moment is tap water pH, very alkaline in London. Is it a certainty that such a high pH, something like 7.5, would damage the plant and possibly kill it by locking out nutrients? Could I get away with tap water if I use a couple of drops of pH down? Or should I face the fact that only distilled water is going to get the job done?

Cheers,

Ali B.

well I still learning about this stuff but if your ph is high then I would think that by using some ph down to bing it to the right range of 6.5-7 then you will be fine as long as your water does not not have to much salt in it. Also if there is a lot of chlorine in the water just let it sit out over night to let the chlorine to evaporate.

All you have to do is use some pH down.  Just make sure you have something to measure it so that you don't go to low.
