since you are just wondering right now---- any water with TDS/PPM > 0 already adds ions you have to deal with. It is practically impossible to get perfectly deionized water cheaply, but RO-reverse osmosis is the next best thing. anything greater than 0 has to be accounted for when you are mixing your nutes, and this is especially true for the very youngest of our plants or the clones, because your needed PPM is only around 400, or so says GH, not 400 plus your tap water minerals. that could jack up your total to around 1000 very easily- not good for young plants. my tap water is 570 right off the bat. it sucks for hydro. also you should always top off your nutrient water with plain RO to reestablish the right PPM. growing plants eventually use more plain old water than a lot of nutes for the same time period, just due to normal transpiration. always use your TDS/PPM meter to be on the money-it will help in the long run. jomamameister
