Lighting hps and mh question
    #652755 - 12/25/12 07:40 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

ok I know from reading that using a mh light during vegging is supost to be used cause it gives it more blue light and a hps for flowering for the more red/orange lights.

now by using mh for vegging does it make a big diffence in growth/yield/thc content of the plant? or am I just fine with using a hps for vegging?

the reason im asking this is cause im going to be using two grow tents one for vegging and one for flower so I wanted to get peoples input before I buy my lights so I can set up accordingly to what would be the best option to go with

Mh is best for veg in my opinion.
It helps keep the plants shorter, tighter, little bushes.

now by using a Mh light that keeps the plant shorter would I be assuming correct that would cut down on over all yield sense the plant wont grow as tall and have less branches and buds to flower in the end?

Hmmm no.
But I guess shorter is the wrong word/term.
by shorter we mean less space between limb sets.
MH gives more limb sets per inch than hps.

:yesnod:
Most see an increase in resin production when adding mh to the flowering light.
Some believe it's best to run one mh to every two hps's in flowering.

While MH will give you shorter node lengths during veg, it's pretty inconsequential.  Once you flip over to 12/12 your plants are going to stretch anyways.  Because of this I have just gone with HPS the whole through.  I made this switch and will never go back.

but do u think that using a mh with hps while flowering would improve the end results?

well I think what im going to do is try to use a mix of both in the grow tent for flowering cause if the mh helps the plant produce more resin. then I will just throw in a small mh light with the hps or maybe a couple small led lights.

cause what I figured what im goig to do is for grow lights is two 600 watt hps for my flowring tent. the tent will be 4x8x7 and there  will be 3-4 plants per a light

I'll stick to my results using HPS in veg.

It's best to stick with what works for you.
Myself it's mh for veg.

Seems we both pack the room well.

I always lol when i see you 2 post in same thread, you are both great blokes but opposite as he'll and heaven Haha.
To op i believe mh shows more branching than hps and its much cooler so you can penetrate much better and for growth that's important and if you have 2 tents then do not use hps in veg you would be silly to do that.
On the other hand I've never seen a bad performance from hps only during veg so really that's my answer inconclusive

I have heard that HPS puts out more lumens per watt (if that means anything to your school of thought) but has less penetrance.  There is obviously a difference, and I suspect that a mix of light sources would probably hedge the most bets in terms of overall plant growth, but that statement is made in total ignorance of any scientific data.
