yup, thats exactly what i did! i left the ziplock open as well so the seeds could get some air as well and the papertowels still stayed wet. unfortunately i ended up throwing these away since no signs were visible.

The whole point of the ziplock is to seal in the moisture. Seeds don't need fresh air, they aren't photosynthesizing, so have no need of it.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants turn light into usable energy. That's not what's going on during germination, in fact, you want to limit or eliminate the exposure to light during this period.
