oh ok.. now Ive also read that a few things should be mixed in to help keep the soil in a stat were it will be softer so it has hair and allows water to drain better.. Would I need anythgn like perlite.. pumice. vermiculite, coco, peat moss?

Nope, I have tried all the amendment ratios, perlite, vermiculite, everything I should think of.  Straight out of the bag has always worked the best.

just picked up a bag of this from my local hydro store. they advised me to just use it straight out of the bag as well with nothing to add. also no fertilizer needed for the first 30 days. so fertilizer would still be required to add, would we add less than the stated amount since ocean forest already has nutrients in it?

also, what do the specific ingredients do for the soil/plants:

composted forest humus
sea going fish emulsion
crab and shrimp meal
fossilized bat guano
norwegian kelp meal

They supply nutrients, and bio-catalysts.

It still sounds like you need to do more research.  Do you know about stepping up with your container size and what not?

i heard a good rule of thumb is having 1 gallon of space for every month the plant is growing for. so i will first plant whatever i have in regular dixie cups first and perhaps after the first month (or sooner? later) transplant to 3 gallon pots. could i just stick to 3 gal pots or would i be safer to use a 5 gal?

well from what I read that longer u want to grow it out the bigger the pot size u need.. im going to go with 5gallon .. cause you have to water it less often but also I read that the roots systems like to grow down instead of more out/wide.... So with a bigger pot less chance for the roots to get tide up together cause they have more room to go down.

if im wrong someone please jump in and correct me please..

They're not gonna survive a month in dixie cups.  I wait until the second set of true leaves (the ones with blades, not the cotyledon) develop and then transfer to my smart pots. I use 3 gallon containers, but I don't grow giant trees; in a 2x4 tent, the three gallon pots do just fine.

Now would it be better for the plant for less stress to say start with seeds or clones and put them in a rockwool starter plug cub and when the roots fully grow then just plant the cub in a 5 gallon bucket?

Peat pellets, and sphagnum moss in jiffy cups are good depending on your wattering system.
Sphagnum moss can hold like ten times its weight in water and retains excellent oxygen levels and roots grow straight through jiffy cups, but because the sphagnum moss holds water so well it doesn't need anywhere near as much water as most other mediums, all these can be easily aqquired from a hardware/gardening store

thank you for this. i have been in a struggle between 3 gallon or 5 gallon pots. my grow space is relatively small, 11in x 25in x 31in. not much to work with, just trying to keep the space to a minimum for 1 plant.
