HID, HPS, or LED?
    #641649 - 10/24/12 05:34 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I've been researching on HID, HPS, and LED lighting. Which is the biggest key to growing from what I have been reading. Is HPS the best for starting out growing then switching to LED or HID. Or is it healthy for it to grow the whole period of time. LED runs off of less Watts than HID but is it the same effect on the plant?
With the proper ventilation system would HID or HPS be better for the plant. LED doesn't push off much heat but HID or HPS does.
HPS, LED, HID
You may choose only one

Okay, HPS IS HID.  HID means high intensity discharge.  Which refers to a few different types of lights.  The ones in that category that we use for growing High Pressure Sodium, and Metal Halide.

LED's are light emitting diodes.

I recommend going with an HPS system.  And use it the whole way through the grow.  LED's will one day be able to compete with and HID system.  But at this point there not quite there, and the decent ones that are out there are hard to find through all the shit ones.

Sounds like you need to do quite a bit more research though.  Seems like you don't really have a complete grasp on this yet.

You should buy this book.  It really lays things out in an understandable way.

I realize that now. I thought about it and did a little bit more research but didn't change the forum in time. I've been doing a lot more research on it. Thanks for the book advice. That really helps a lot. I'm trying to gather as much information as possible for my first time. It's going to be more of an experiment than an actual harvest with success. I'll have to experiment more and more. If you could send me a PM with the basics since you clearly know so much about it. I'd be glad to accept any help

Well in all honesty you just need to start researching more. I did months of reading and researching before my first grow.  When you think you're ready to get going I'm more than happy answer your questions.  But there's so much information that it would be a huge pain in the ass to write out guides etc, every time someone came in asking for something like that.

Keep reading, get books, ask questions.  And don't expect to be an amazing grower right off the bat.

Well I understood you meant plasma grow light.

I'm not really seeing much on them out there.  Most everything I'm coming across is just from the manufacturer.  They sure are fucking spendy!
