lol sorry for this thread, I guess I am kinda tired. I think it sounds a bit racist to be honest, it wasnt my intention, I just kinda hear that question at least 200 times during a shift, it gets kinda annoying.

Wouldn't this problem be avoided if the employees greeted the guests initially

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

I always do, but here we speak french, so I greet people in french, but like even with phonecalls, my speech is most likely in french, but theres an english part at the end, and they ALWAYS do "wow do you speak english?" ...

I mean here it is pretty much a basic that you have to speak english if you wanna work in a hotel, well at least at the frontdesk, I am pretty sure it is like that everywhere also, as it is probably the most used language by tourists, even if they are from another country that doesnt speak english at the first place. But for real, even when I greet the people in english (because I heard them speak before), or even if they did hear me speak entirely in english with another customer just before them, they STILL have to ask it...

Well since french has different roots than english, it is quite hard for people who speaks english as main language to learn french, there are a lots of pronunciations or sounds that we use and that you don't use, and it goes on the other way also, for example the "the" in three or the, we will pronounce them tree and "de".

But for people talking french, it is easy to learn languages that have the same latin roots, for example spanish, even tho there are different pronunciations also between these 2 languages, it is much easier for a spanish speaking person to learn french, my roommate's wife (whos my roommate also lol) is from Dominican republic, she learned french so fast when she arrived here, it took her a couple of months and thats it. She speaks it pretty well, but again there are words she can't even say, like "arbre" just because of the 2 "r", she can't pronounce it at all.

Also language totally reflect a part of the culture, there are expressions that just wouldn't work in another country, or in the same country actually (Québec for example), the language and expressions are adapted to the way people live, we use a ton of english expressions, but we adapt them in a french way, for example "esti que c'est fucké" would mean "its so fucked up", we use lots of english words and we don't even know the words in french for them (well lots of people don't), for example muffler, or a tire (car tire) etc.
