Inconsitent lighting?
    #626850 - 06/10/12 09:57 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

What happens if you light your plants moderately well then usually accidentally give them 2-4hours of darkness then keep em under some floursecents for an additional 4 hours.... stupid?

I'd think a strange light schedule could stress them out and cause hermies if it happens all the time.

one time on accident though?  Not a huge deal I don't think for darkness.

On the other hand a quick light leak in the flower room can suck

a well lit room on 18/6 or 24/0 will give you the best results. well lit, then dark, then floros sounds kinda goofy to me. consistency will give you the best results.

Don't do the extra 4, cut it short and restart the schedule. It happens. You want too little if anything.

Or wait, are we talking about flowering here?

--------------------
Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Ah but if you are a perfectionist you will never get anything done,  (I'm not saying you do or don't so don't get offended) but is your grow space 100% ideal?

As long as it's not a financial problem theres nothing with growing one or two plants in non-ideal conditions, you can make edibles or hash or if it's good enough about enough herbs to last you a month or so... that's not bad considering the tiny amount of work (which is actually pretty interesting and fun)

Nah we are talking about veggng and thanks Ras, you have been very understanding and helpful, I hope I can do the same for you in some thread in the future.

As for the cycle I did cut it short,

@orison: yeah working without a timer seems dangerous and u need to be there to move the plants blahblahblahblah without good timing to make sure that the plants were getting steady light (and the advice of friendly growerites) I decided to let the plants deal with the minuscule amount of light they get during the day.

Oooh ok. I run my veg 24/0 so I never have that trouble haha. I find that things do seem to grow slightly better under 18/6 but I don't have 2 timers and I'm too lazy to switch it on/off daily.

Darkness in veg is only a problem if it starts to initiate the release of flowering hormones. This can vary from strain to strain. Where the genetics come from plays a big role, both latitude and altitude affect these responses.

But generally:

Sativas can do this if going from 24/0 or 18/6 to 14/10 or 13/11 because near the equator, where sativas come from, the night only ever gets so long and the plants need to catch that subtle signal and start reproducing.

Inicas are less prone to start flowering in anything more than 13/11 because in higher latitudes, where indicas come from, the night gets much longer than near the equator and so the signal to reproduce is much less subtle.

12/12 is an absolute way to make sure your plant flowers because naturally, the night only gets that long in places, or seasons, that are inhospitable to cannabis. So if a cannabis plant were to find itself in such an environment it would make damn sure it attempted to reproduce, which is why we choose that ratio of light to dark for indoor flowering.

Thank you Nanook of the North!  lol have you ever been to the ARTIC tundra? lol

I have absolutely no idea what kind of seeds i used, but from what I know about pot... I have both Indica (shorter, stubby leaves, fatter) and Sativa (Taller, long leaves, massive fan leave spans, bigger distances between the nodes etc.)

The Sativa does look like it is getting ready to bud.... I took two clones today, hopefully this poor plant is a female.
