Growing Fungus in a humidity dome?
    #627607 - 06/14/12 08:28 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Hey everyone. Just had a thought....

Has anyone tried growing mushrooms in a humidity dome used for clones? It seems to me that it would be a perfect fruiting chamber. Stays nice and humid, has small vents, plenty of space. If you threw an airstone and a bit of hydroton in the bottom, I think it could work quite nicely. Anyone tried this?

Haven't tried it but it's the same thing as a fruiting chamber.

might as well just do a monotub. theyre just as easy IMHO and more worth it.

rye berries spawned to 1 brick coir, 2 quarts vermiculite, half cup gypsum, and 1 gallon of water

in a clear plastic tub with the bottom lined with a black trash bag.

I've tried one of those before and didn't get the humidity levels right, I believe was the problem. How many holes do I need to drill in the thing for FAE? And where would I drill them?

keeping humidity at the right level is super easy!!!

get a big clear tub like i have, and a 2" drill bit, and about half way up the tub, drill the holes. be careful, hold the plastic and drill slow so you dont crack the tubs.

then pull some polyfil out of the bag and stick it in the holes. not too tight, youll know when ya play with the polyfil. if you follow the directions to make the substrate, you wont have to worry about humidity

i soak my tubs between flushes. i pour a bunch of water in the tub and put weight on the sub to keep it under the water, because they float and theyre hard to keep underwater. soak for 4-6 hours, pour off, and start fruiting again. then MUSHROOMS!!!

give it a shot man! super simple.

Humidity domes, interestingly enough wouldn't allow for humidity levels to stay where there needed (over 90%) whilst allowing enough air circulation. Co2 would build up way too quickly for any good fruiting to take place; that's assuming the cakes would fruit at all.
