Opium Poppies
    #588984 -

The other day, the opium poppies I planted had just sprouted.
Anyways, I had put chickenwire over the tops of the pots to guard it from birds.
I just went outside to have a ciggarette, and found some roaches in the pots.
Is this normal? Can it affect my grow? Will they eat my poppy sprouts?
Maybe i should bring them in at night?

The only time I see roaches is at the Day-n-Night-Deli, or else inside Pizza Pops when I was a child. (yes I bit one in half inside a pizza pop and nobody to this day believes me).

Im not sure what they will do to your poppies... just curious what colour poppy do you have?

Being from Tasmania, they have white and purple petals

Yes it is, although somebody has told me its quite difficult. Poppies are opposite to MJ so they have 12/12 light during veg and 18/6 during flowering. When my chemdogs go into flower I plan to chuck a couple poppies in there also just to see how it goes.

I don't think i know of any guides for indoor. Somni-forums: http://opium.poppies.org is a good place to start, but rego is closed so you can only browse the threads :frown:
I've emailed the site operators as i can still see new members being signed up, but they dont reply :shakefist:

Another place with some cool guides and info is www.drugs-forum.com, although their opium forum can move slowly at times.

Well, alot of people cannot tell the difference between opium poppies and the hundreds of other types of poppies.
And of the opium bearing poppies (what you want is papaver somniferum) there are so many different varieties. Alot of people think all opium poppies are white or purple. But there are also many beautiful ornamental poppies which can yeild some decent opium.

When the season comes back around, I'm gonna build a raised garden bed and just have my own private poppy field  Probably the taz strain due to potency and yeild, but will chuck some nice ones in there too such as the "danish flag" and "midnight" opium poppies.

If you can get your hands on them, other great strains to try are:
1. Gigantemum: Giant pods with massive yields
2. Hens n chicks: big pods surrounded by little pods
3. Tasmanian
4. Persian

Being in Australia, most of what i can get is Tasmanian. There is an aussie shamanic shop that sells some, but the range is limited, and prices quite high compared to the rest of the world.

Good luck with the future project.
Oh yeah, if you figure out how to get registration into the somniforums, slip us a pm

Cheers
Magickz

Yeah, I hate that a lot of forums that have some sort of activity about opium don't accept new members.  Sheesh.

I found this forum when I was looking for opium information and I saw that it's fairly new.  Hopefully, we can get some sort of conversation going.

I see that you guys are trying to grow them.  I was wondering if you have any updates?  I'm trying to see if it's worth it.  I'm looking at this page about opium effects and it's interesting to say the least.  I was wondering if any of you have tried it and if it's worth it to grow them.

I thought poppies didn't flower the first year they were growing?  I could be wrong on that though.

according to wiccan from the shroomery it takes around 120 days!

Quote:
The opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, is an annual plant. From a very small round seed, it grows, flowers, and bears fruit (seed pods) only once. The entire growth cycle for most varieties of this plant takes about 120 days.

so yeah, i´m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping they´ll do good enough in my small pots

That definitely isn't right.  My poppy plants come back year after year.  They are definitely a perennial.

Upon further research it depends on the variety.  Some poppies are annual, perennials, biennial.  So were both right :vaped:
