I have an 8" Cool Tube, 400w MH, no ballast yet. I'm wondering what I should get to make my setup solid. I would definitely like to get an HPS for flowering so do I need to get a ballast that can work with both? Also, would it be worth getting a HPS that has more wattage, like 600 or so? Would it fit into my 8" tube? Would this effect my ballast? Any suggestions on decent ballasts that are somewhat cheap?

your bulbs have to match you ballasts
if you take your lamp into a growstore
and tell them youd like a ballast that can run your existing lamp, and a HPS for flowering, they probably have a ballast that can handle that
that is if you dont want to spend the money. if you do, get all kinds of shit 
craigslist probably has what you need if you know what youre looking for
