What do the buds smell like?...
I have some bud that I know is legit Purple Kush at the moment and it has a very pronounced fruity/berry aroma, with a pine smell underneath. The first time I took a smell of the buds I was amazed, has an unreal sweet berry like smell.
Thie is the Purple Kush I currently have

Hmm.. It might not be purple kush than, its not really a fruity odor, though it smells soooo good... I thought it was kush because of the form of the buds, all the weed has small purple spots, I wish I knew exactly what it was!!

Who knows  ....Looks like some good bud though 
If you are familiar with a variety of strains you can at least get an idea of what might be in the genetics from the aroma, taste, bud structure, and the type of high it induces.

Ya well the bud structure reminds me kush a bit, but if it is kush, I don't think its like pure kush, maybe some hybrid, there's definitely some purple spots on all the buds, but I think any kind of weed can be mixed with purple, I am no expert, still need to learn a lot about that  Though some buds are really big, I think kush buds are rarely that big, just look at that one next to the lighter, its fuckin huge!
But the weed is totally incredible... I love it!

Here the most common weed is M39, almost always chemical like shit, hard to smoke, it is not even fun... But right now I got a good contact for lots of "exotic strains" as we call them here (Exo for short)
