Police say a Sea Isle City man ordered two pounds of marijuana by mail from California.
Joseph A. Gioia, 30, of the 100 block of East 76th Street was charged with possession and intent to distribute drugs after an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and city police said.
The Prosecutor’s Office said the Postal Service suspected a package from California addressed to Gioia in Sea Isle City contained the contraband drugs.
On Tuesday, investigators interviewed Gioia and determined the package contained two pounds of marijuana worth about $9,800.
Gioia was released from the Cape May County jail Wednesday after posting $25,000 bail.
Anyone convicted of the third-degree crime faces up to five years in state prison.
