Um, as far as I know you have to be a resident of the state for at least a year to get your medical-card. Though I could be wrong....And it may be different from state to state
But you most definitely need an ID from the state you're planning on getting your card in/growing.
No doubt there are probably loop holes or a way to finagle the system though...

It does not take a year of residency to get legal.
We are going to DMV tomorrow.
After purchasing all of our equipment, we have enough to live for 6 months.
We're not experienced, but we have studied the fuck out of growing for over 6 months.
Including reading numerous books, participating in numerous forums and watching hours of videos.
With a little luck we'll get there.

I'm making a youtube channel for those who want to follow our progress and see what it's like starting a grow house from scratch with 20k.
We have 4 1000w HPS lights for our first grow room. 9x10. A room dedicated to mothers and veg. All of this will be shown in the video. No perpetual harvest. One big harvest. And we have another room to add 4 more 1000w as soon as we start making money.

That'll be maybe $3-$6K return depending on where you live. That's going to take you a LONG fucking time to turn a profit at that rate. I'm just saying you need to have a backup plan. You have this fantasy in your head where you can just go grow a shit pile of weed and get rich, but you need to be more realistic about it in my opinion. First off it's a heavily competitive market, so you'll need to be growing quality herb in order to be able to find a buyer, and then you'll need to be able to grow enough to have a consistent supply. The people who make money growing weed are running 20,000W warehouses (at least) and drop off a pound a week to different dispensaries. Consistency and quality is the key, and 4KW is a joke in this game.

Yes. I'm on a temporary hiatus from growing now that I'm done with school. I landed a sweet gig as a scientific consultant in Denver so I have no reason to grow at this point other than personal supply and hobby.

We have Super Lemon Haze, Special Kush, White Rhino, and Church growing right now.
I was reading a book called "Dank" by Subcool and came across a strain called Jilly Bean which seemed perfect for me. We ordered that along with Qrazy Train and that just arrived. We will be starting those along with Arjans Ultra Haze #1, Amnesia Haze, Shining Silver Haze, Special Queen #1, Tutankhmon, and Kannabia Special. Most of these are free samples that came with other seeds we ordered.
Also, on Monday, we are buying about 30 clones from a trusted person we know out here. The plan is to flower the clones and start cloning and test flowering the mothers we grew out from seed.
Hopefully, our bud turns out top shelf. We are well aware of the challenges that we face but we had to give it a try.

You've invested a great deal of time(at least you would have to complete a large grow) and money into this. Don't skimp on genetics and that doesn't necessarily mean spending money on them, do some market research and find out what people want. I have a funny feeling if you try to go into a dispensary with Church or Arjan Haze #1 bud you're going to get laughed out or not get very much money for your efforts.
I've seen a lot of growers on ICMAG complain about White Rhino from Greenhouse throwing male flowers so a heads up.

We live an hour outside of the nearest city. On Monday we are driving in to it and will check out some dispensaries.
Why do you think those strains will not be wanted? Too long for the flowering time is what I figured, but are there also other reasons?
What strains did you think people out here would like?
Yea, unfortunately, I have heard some bad things about the feminized seeds from GH so that's why we are setting up a small flowering room to test each strain before we go crazy with it.

people smoking the bud don't give two flying shits how long it took to flower. It's all about novelty, you and 15,000 other people are growing those strains so the people at the dispensary won't even take them off your hands if YOU pay for them to take it.

Just in all honesty, you should be shooting for strains like Sweetest Cindy 99 that combine all time classics in a new and exciting way, or Blockhead which is incredibly well known, but (out here at least) almost impossible to find. Either that, or stuff nobody has ever heard of, but smells like love, tastes like jesus sperm and gets you so high you're half convinced it's opium.

Sound advice. My suggestions are based on the market here, I'm not super clued into the Cali market aside from it being super flooded up north and still reasonable down south (but still pretty competitive since growers from up north just come down and sell)

it sucks how people visit california just to rip peoples outdoor crops from their backyards.
i've heard countless stories like this and all i could recommend would be guard dogs, security cameras, and firepower.
it sucks to have to go to those lengths just to protect a plant that shouldn't even be illegal in the first place.

I can admit where I was wrong and here it is.
We (my significant other and I) are leaving.
The operation did not fail. I think they (the remaining 2 partners) will actually succeed. They ended up needing way more than 20k. Their plants are towards the end of flower and they are beautiful. Sticky to the touch and smell dank as fuck.
They ended up growing out 19 OG Kush clones which smell so strong and are so sticky. And 2 Church and 2 super lemon haze.
We are leaving more because we are just not happy here. We are in the middle of nowhere (decent sized city) where we know no one and are just not happy sitting in the house constantly with no money of our own and nowhere to go. We got an opportunity to go stay with my family back in Vegas and deal the World Series of Poker, so we are going. After that, travel a little, and maybe start something of our own.
I have no regrets regarding this decision to try to make this work.
Just wanted to let you all know since this is my home. I offered to make videos to finish the grow on youtube, but I don't think they want me to. I think they are pretty upset that we are leaving.
