AN escaped prisoner planned to commit suicide by bear — after resolving to let the huge grizzlies EAT him.
Convicted killer Tracy Province planned to inject himself with heroin in Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, and let the beasts feast on him, after becoming more and more panicked while on the run.
Province told cops, after he was recaptured him in Meeteeste, Wyoming, on August 9 last year, he only decided not to go through with the idea when a "voice in his head" told him to hitchhike to Indiana to go and see his family instead.
Mohave County Sheriff's Office Detective Larry Matthews wrote in an official report that Province wanted to: "Inject a gram of heroin and be bear food.
"As he was preparing the drug, a voice told him not to go through with the plan, and he changed course in favour of trying to hitchhike to Indiana to see family.
Divine intervention
"He called it divine intervention."
Province confessed his unusual plan to Detective Matthews after being returned to Arizona, where he had escaped from a minimum-security prison near Kingman on July 30.
The lag and fellow convict John McCluskey had allegedly used cutting tools thrown over the fence by accomplice Casslyn Mae Welch to flee the jail.
Province had been serving two life sentences for murder and robbery and said he had wanted to flee but had started to get nervous after getting out.
The trio are facing capital murder and carjacking charges in New Mexico, where they have been accused of killing an Oklahoma couple and burning their bodies inside a camping trailer while on the run.
After the killings Province asked the others to take him to Yellowstone.

Al Nash, a spokesman at Yellowstone Park, admitted Province's bizarre plan could have worked.
He said: "We have a fair number of bears in the ecosystem.
"They eat about anything. A bear would rather get an easy meal than a difficult meal, but human bear encounters are very infrequent."
Province has pleaded guilty to kidnapping, aggravated assault and armed robbery and is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.
McCluskey and Welch are set to go on trial on April 19 after they were caught in eastern Arizona, where their beat-up Nissan was spotted at a campsite.

Yeah. Dying like that might have redeemed him a little bit IMO. Even with shooting up beforehand. Giving yourself up to a Griz' is fuckin' hardcore.
