Need help from you gamers

My little brother just got x-box live for an early birthday present and I was supposed to help him set it up cause I am the most teach friendly in my family and I am lost. :facepalm:

I made him an account and it is all set up except for two things.


He can't hear other players voices which is the main problem. We thought maybe it had to do with the parental controls my mother set up so canceled those. But he still can't hear other people. Do any of you gaming aficionados know how to fix this?

The other problems is he can't download the free map packs which makes it hard for him to find any games to join since he doesn't have as many maps.

Right now he is on a free coupon for a few days on xbox live he got with the games. After they expire he is getting the year subscription to live that is his major gift.

Can anyone help?

I wish I could help. Unfortunately the only gaming technology is Atari and nintendo from 85.

Sound for xbox, hit the xbox button. Go to the far right and hit family setting (Or preferences, I forget)
Then go to sound, and hit whatever you preference is.

lol.  I bricked mine today :nonono: trying to go back to 3.55 firmware with sony's official update.

You bricked it trying to go back, or you are trying to go back now that its bricked?

I did the ge0hot CFW mod. It took like 30 seconds.


@CosmicFool - there are so many things that could be the problem. I doubt your ISP will be able to help you. Sony would be a better bet. I had a bitch of a time getting mine online too, but once it got there, I was all set.

I might have had to use a static IP...my router is so weird. It only lets laptops on my network without static addresses :confused:

I posted a thread about it in the (blue) tech forum
I have one computer so I don't have much use for a router
but I do have spare ethernet cable so I just ran a cable from my PS3 into my modem (swapping it for the one running to my PC)
the guys in tech didn't think this would be a problem,
the PS3 can't do anything if you do an auto setup but if I manually put in the settings off my PC I can get some recognition but I keep getting a DNS error

When they ugraded to 360 they made an auto mute Xbox live thing for little kids.

I just had to get into the parental controls, but it was a bitch.

I'm pretty sure you can make it static.

I'm just remembering something I had to do to open ports on my router for warcraft three one time. Had to set up some Ip thing to get into my routers menu I think.

I dunno, I stoped being a tech guy sometime after that first joint I smoked. :lol:

That would be port forwarding (where all traffic received on a given router port goes directly to a certain system on your LAN), not a static IP - to have a static IP you'd need your ISP to assign you one.
