I was gonna make a thread like this.

I think in the 70's it was more of a word for weed, but now it is more associated with opiates.

Though according to dictionary.com:

I'm pretty sure "dope" mainly covers weed, cocaine and heroin.

It's just a term which has negative connotations to discourage potential users

And to have something relevant to the topic, I rarely ever hear anyone use the word "dope" around here. Most of the people I'm around are plain old stoners.
