Phantom HPS
    #495629 - 11/06/10 12:27 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I've had some issues with my 400W HPS since I got it, but since the seller replaced the bulb everything has been going smoothly until I switched to flowering. I turn the light off on the ballast, and it gets dimmer but doesn't turn off. I have a timer in between the wall socket and the power board where the HPS, CFL's and my fan are all connected, and everything but the HPs turns off.

I figured out that once Its unplugged from the power it does turn off, but as about 5mins after its plugged in, even if its in the off position, it still turns on. So what's happening everynight, is that my fan and my CFL's are turning off, but my HPS stays on, and therefore they haven't gone into flowering yet.

Has anyone had this problem before? Or a recommendation on how to fix it? I've sent an email to the seller AGAIN and I'm waiting to see what he has to say :nonono:

Thanks in advance!:bongload:

Well I had a timer before this one but it was a cheap shitty one that just couldn't handle the voltage. This ones working fine, I've done a few trials with the HPS and it just keeps turning on as soon as it gets plugged in

Does Australia run 240v for all standard household outlets like Europe? If this is the case your timer is only killing power to one of the hot lines. The easiest thing to do would be go to the electric supply store or the home improvement store and ask for a timer that kills power to both hot lines. I'm 90% positive that this is the case since the light only gets dim when the timer is in the off position.

I used to have a high wattage heat lamp for my lizard that would do that too.  A 160w PowerSun bulb that would only shut off if unplugged and would dim if turned off.  I think its a safety feature to allow the bulb to cool down/warm up slowly.

I could be wrong, could be some faulty wiring with your on/off switch, like some of the electricity still gets through, thus powering the bulb.

Good luck man

Yes we do run 240V, thanks foe the suggestion! That does make sense actually, I'll try to get back to the hardware store today, Thanks!

No, the timer should completely kill power to its supplied outlet if its doing its job properly. If it was at your line into the house it might only kill one leg.

My first thought would be to test the outlet of your timer with a multi tester while in the off posistion, if you're getting voltage its defective.
