Hermie: to kill or not to kill?
    #479279 - 09/18/10 06:53 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Last night I discovered that one of my favorite plants had a few balls interspersed amongst the calyxes.  It's 1.5 weeks into flowering.  I removed the few that I could find and left it for now.

What do you generally do with your hermaphrodite plants?  I'm leaning towards killing it, because I still have five others to finish flowering, but it seems a shame.  However, I'd rather not have any seeding go down.  Thoughts?

Couple years ago I had a couple bagseed go herm, only got about 3 seeds from 4 plants, I picked off a few male flowers, and what was left didn't do much. It's your choice.

Yeah, if you can keep up with picking off the male flowers it can be worth saving. I'd probably only do it somewhere I could quarantine the hermi though. And make sure to destroy any hermi seeds lest they should be intermingled with good seed.

I had to look closely at mine, by the time they were noticed from a far view it looked almost like hairs.

No true hermie is worth saving.  You will never, ever be able to pick off all the male flowers on a true hermaphrodite and will end up with seeded bud.  Now if you stressed your plant and a few nanners popped up near the end, then I can agree with what you said.

However at 1.5 weeks in and dealing with a plant that is naturally hermaphroditic, axe that fucker and start again.  Better to lose two weeks then two months.

This is possibly what happened to mine, interrupting the dark cycle.
