Smoking some Gorilla Glue #4. Love this stuff. I have a few GG#1 plants I will be cutting in a few weeks, supposed to be even better than the 4.

Is potency mostly genetics? What I'm smoking now is lovely but I've smoked death star and it was worlds apart from mostly everything I've ever smoked.
Now is that a particularly potent strain or did the guy who grew it really know what he was doing, in so pulling maximum potency from the variety?
What's the answer to getting some one hit shit? Best strains and care?

There are others who can answer you better but in the meantime:
What you have asked is essentially the old nature/nurture question.
Yes, all living things and their characteristics are the result of their genetics & environment.
In so far as you cannot produce results that aren't founded on the makeup of genes.
For any trait, such as THC production, there is only 100% expression of what is possible genetically.
You could look at the environment as the obstacle between 0% and 100%.
The environment is the time and space that those genes must occupy to proliferate - you have more/less desirability in how it is configured.
The grower's job is to remove obstacles between the genetics and their potential.
Do they ever achieve 100%? Probably not, but 99% or so? Maybe, and that would be my question.
One could also argue that in this context intervention could be considered a third factor above and beyond genetics and environment.
In that ways a cultivator can manipulate the plant to achieve a desired result are outside normal environmental factors the genes developed to respond to.
This is where things get a little too philosophical for how high I am.
