i found this small vase at my friends house, and want to make a mini bong out of it. its a great size for good hits.

a diamond tip drill bit and a high speed drill. Start at a slow speed to keep it from skipping around then once set increase speed. Also constantly spray water to cool, lubricate, and keep down any dust. its really a bitch but with the right tools and skills it can be done.
edit: also wear some safety glasses man.

Gotta be hella careful not to crack that shit. My buddy bought a full dremel tool set and makes bongs outta random shit like that all the time. Be patient more than anythin otherwise you'll crack the shit outta it.

do you have a bunsen burner? you can heat it and try to do it that way. That's probably better than drilling into it, cause you can assume that will fuck it up.

You can buy a drill bit made for this at a lumber yard. About $6. It does not look like a regular drill bit.
Just don't put on much pressure.

if you get a piece of metal hot enough it will melt through the glass. Then you just keep increasing the size of the metal piece until you get the size you want. This is just one way to do it with heat, they might have better ideas

That should work but might take a lot of gas to get it hot enough. Depends on how thick the glass is, on how much gas it will take.

When I was in college a buddy and I made a hookah outta a half gallon bottle of jager. The ends of the hoses had a lil shooter jager bottles (the ones that only hold a shot or whatever) It was pretty cool. Burned weed like a mofo though.
We filled my tub up with water and drilled all the holes underwater. It took a long ass time to drill the holes...but it's doable with a diamond tipped bit and a good dremel. The key is to let the dremel do the work....don't apply too much pressure. You'll have yourself a nice lil bingah. That's way better then buying one if you ask me. But I am one of those "MacGuyver types" anyway.

if you do it right with the hot metal rod it will just melt the spot you put it against. Do not try and force it, it will just melt as you go. You may have to heat the rod a few times as it will cool as you use it.

rapidly cooling more so than anything.
if you're going to try pushing a hot piece of metal through glass and heat the glass up to some temperature hot to the touch I think it's highly unlikely the glass will break. If you had the vase sitting in cold water or in the fridge for some reason I think it would crack, even from room temperature I doubt it. I've never had much success trying to shape heated glass so I wish you luck.

A friend and I did it once and it took a lot of propane and time to do it, but it was a thick piece too. If you have an ox-acetylene cutting torch set up with a rosebud end you can get a metal rod red hot in no time. And yes rapid cooling will break it faster than the heat will.

When I used to play around with glass a little it was the cooling and cracking that screwed with me the most at first as well.
A lot of practice with junk is key.
