In fact, the iPad does support VGA video out and it is pretty much widescreen if you turn it 90 degrees. I won't be buying in on the first generation, but I could see myself owning an iPad within a few years time. It looks like a handy and fun to use product... like most of Apple's products for that matter.
Disclosure: Long AAPL (and making enough money off of it to buy plenty of iPads  )

You can do that with a laptop. What would really be neat is if you could stick it in your pocket.

I can see why some people want it or maybe even need one but personally I will not get one no need for one, laptop would better suit my needs

Bah I had a netbook and they SUCK. The keyboard is so tiny it is WORTHLESS! The screen of a netbook blows too. I'll use a real laptop if I want a laptop. The Ipad is bitchin for a coffee shop or couch / bed session. I use my Iphone to watch youtube and other shit at a coffee shop vs. carrying a netbook (woof).
An Ipad is light and isn't a burden to carry. Unlike a netbook with charger. Besides, anything Apple makes has a bsd backend; not WINDOWS. Even though this computer has windows because it is a DAW (digital audio workstation); I loath using Windows.

If you spend a little more money on a notebook, you can get a standard size keyboard as well as a bigger screen. You can also upgrade RAM, HD, and install a linux/unix based operating system. An Ipad is physically challenged. And not being able to use flash is definitely a downside.
