I really like my iphone. Had managed to actually reserve one of them to pick up today, launch day. woke up early and got over to the store at 645 am. The line was about two blocks long. I waited 45 minutes and started feeling real sick so i went home. then went to work a short time later. I figured, i have it reserved so i can pick it up later and avoid the line. Well i went back to the store at 11:30. The line was just as long then as it was at store opening. So i said fuck that since i only had an hour lunch. I still figured, i have it reserved, no big deal, I will go back after work and pick it up. I get there at 630 pm and there's no line, so i get excited. I talk to the first guy and he tells me they sold them all. I said, wait a minute, i reserved mine, he says we sold em all. I say, what the fuck, let me see your manager. Manager says they've been selling these things indiscriminately of reserves?! WTF is a reserve then!? God damnit, if there had not been three cops standing right beside me i probably owuld have made a scene. not because im a fanboy without an iphone, but because of their ridiculous handling of this release. I haven't checked to see if this has happened at other stores or not. They said they can put me on a priority list for the next shipment. I said to the manager, well you have to agree this is beyond reasonable, right? What kind of freebees are you going to give me? "Oh well, um, um, we sold all our accessories, but we can hook you up when you pick up the phone with the next shipment." Anyway, im just pissed off and wanted to share this bullshit. Maybe this'll make all the apple haters hate even more.

Stores sell their shit to make money.
They do not care who buys it, as long as someone does.
They allow "reserves" so help insure that they sell the crap they are trying to sell.
First come, first serve.

Its kind of misleading to call something a reservation, when it gives you no more right to the product than anyone else though.

He can complain all he wants.
It won't stop the sales of their products.
Personally, I won't purchase something until a few weeks after it comes out,
to make sure they had a chance to review the initial complaints and issue fixes.

no man, you're missing the point. It's the reserve process. Why even have it then? I understand your points. sell sell sell. It's the policy that allowed this happen that is bullshit. just give me an hour to calm down and get high. i was looking forward to using the facetime thing.

I would complain to Apple too, you should at least get something out of them.
But from a retailers position, reserves just allow to them request more product from the supplier. Like for video games, if they get a certain number of product reserves, the supplier is obligated to send them that many of the product + whatever they are considering "standard" release to each store.
How much did you pay to reserve it?

email them, send letters, call. anything till you get your way.
its a dick move that they did hold your phone till at least the next day you know? i mean what if something serious happend and you got held up till the end of the day. not cool apple not cool..
