Using Drugs to Feel "Normal"

Do you agree with this drug cliche they taught us in school?
That once people use drugs a lot they no longer get high they just need the drugs to feel "normal"?

This may sound weird, but I smoke pot almost every day and I get ripped and trip balls every day and it always feels like the first time I smoked, the highest I've ever been. I've devoloped a bit of a tolerance but nothing that enables me 'not to get high.'

When you get addicted, like true physical addiction to something like opiates, then yes it does start to become a process in which you take it not to feel "normal" as in sober, but to not feel withdrawly, which is kinda like feeling normal.  And then it starts to take way more than it used to, to get high.

i started getting addicted to weed at 12 but didnt start doin heavy drugs til college

i jus did psychs throughout HS :coaster:

I do drugs to feel normal.  The idea of taking drugs for a thrill is long gone for me...  I use drugs to self medicate my psychological and emotional state.

normal is relative.
what the stereotype is is that if you do heroine/weed/any drug then after a while you will need the drug to feel the way you used to feel sober.

No. Addiction is real but that is not necessarily what addiction always is.
I was just asking if people feel this is true.

Marijuana sort of helps my sobriety. It helps me sleep, so without it I wouldn't be as functional or happy.

So I guess in that sense, I'm getting high so I can feel normal later. :tongue: If that makes any sense.

I get high for the following day. I smoked weed all throughout high school and didn't do any other drugs until I turned 18. At that time I got addicted to hard drugs and became a daily user of cocaine. I was entirely addicted to it and was taking ecstasy on a daily basis as well. During that time I never smoked weed at all.

I completely stopped weed and stayed on cocaine and X. After I admitted myself to a hospital because I wanted help, I got help got out and never did cocaine or X again. I didnt smoke weed for about 5 years after I had stopped coke and X. I have now been smoking again for about 7 years and have no problem NOT smoking if I need to stop for a while.

I have felt addiction from other drugs but have never felt a true physical addiction to Marijuana, maybe a mental addiction but never physical.
