Hydro Setup, Opinions?
    #375749 - 02/28/10 11:15 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I've been growing scrog for a while, typically single setups 400-600w. I am looking at expanding a bit, and am limited by number of plants. So I want to keep scrogging, but have something that is manageable to maintain. I am most familiar with DWC, but in looking at most multi bucket dwc setups, I feel their wouldn't be ample circulation in the system, and that the ppms would vary from bucket to bucket. So this is what i've come up with, it's almost half ebon flow, half dwc. Let me know if you see any major flaws that I've overlooked.

To describe my 4 year old, ms paint drawing. Basically I would be setting up 2 x 3 - 5 gallon bucket racks, on wheels so they can be moved or rotated under lighting, each rack with its own reservoir. The buckets would each function as bubblers with water in them full time, a pump from the reservoir will run full time to circulate water out of the reservoir and through the buckets. The buckets are each connected to eachother in series with the last bucket overflowing back into the reservoir.

Theory is that this would allow for better root mass and plant size of dwc, with the maintence benefits of ebb.

Welcome to the Growery!
:awehigh:

I like the idea!

I can't really give you much advice because Ive only grown in soil, but there are some more seasoned hydro peeps on here.

Cool design! Why the double flood chambers though? A little unnecessary imo.

Oh. In the picture it looks like you have two buckets (flood chambers) for each system.

Just to clarify, the view on the far right is the side view of one of the tables.

Oh I see! Well in that case, why 6 buckets? Why not just one large tub?

I like your design, i myself have only tried hydro once in a DWC bucket, a single trainwreck clone. My only advice is get the proper meters and nutrients and reverse osmosis filters if necessary before you start growing. Also that setup is going to be running close to 100 gallons of water, make sure all the connects are sealed well because you don't want to come home to a flooded growroom or worse yet get busted because of it.

Yea, I've been doing DWC for a while, interestingly enough my first ever grow was a single trainwreck plant, from seed, under a 150w hps with cfl's. Came out pretty good =)

Since then I have invested in a good TDS and have RO on delivery. I've run the Lucas formula in dwc since day one and have never had a bad grow/yield

Well, one reason I intend to use individual 5 gallons is total solution amount, with a 6 plant setup a box that would fit the tray would simply have too much water for my liking.
Really tho just ease of access primarily. Used a sweater box setup for 4 plants before and the fact that the rootmass gets tangled between the plants, the top you are lifting is directly connected to the plants, which are then connected to the screen.. Just gets rough. Having a seperate tub I can use for easy water changes and addbacks has been a dream for a while.. lol
