Leaky drip hoses!!
    #336854 - 12/26/09 11:57 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

So i setup my drip system...and then turned on the pump...adjusted all the drippers so they were dripping evenly...and then realized that a few of them were leaking onto the floor. The leaking is happening where the thin drip hoses join the bigger 13mm hose....i picked up some silicone sealant today, but was wondering if there is a simpler way...or maybe im missing something??

Get yourself a PVC manifold and use grommets to get a tight seal between the manifold and drip tubes. Many of the designs I have seen call for these grommets for just that purpose, plus its clean and easy to do, better than glue, anyways.

I don't know if it would work but some plumbers tape/putty would provide a more flexible way of sealing your hoses.  Both are removed very easily so you can take apart and put your system away if need be.

Silicone sealant will work, but IIRC you're pretty much stuck once it hardens.

Good luck, I had issues with silicone with my mushie tent. Water seemed to keep finding its way around the silicone. Hope it works out better for you

i think they gave me really soft rubber hose and when i punched the holes in it looked fine...but when i screwed the attachments where the drip lines attach to...it tore the holes bigger...i think the problem is with the type of hose. I went to another hardware store and the hose they sell is much firmer and i would think would screw in better without tearing. If the silicone doesnt work...i'll replace the soft hose for the harder stuff.
