Increased odor being an inverse relation to water content

It might be all in my head but I'm going to start paying attention more in the near future,

but it seems to me plants put out more smell while the soil is very dry. Also I notice the leaves tend to point upward.

With very moist soil the smell is less as noticeable and the leaves get somewhat droopy.

Does anyone else notice this and is there a reasoning behind it perhaps?

I'm just curious in botany and love learning the very settle things that aren't widespread information.
