It's not completely wrong, just over exaggerated all to hell.
High cadmium levels will def fuck some shit up in your body, and it is more readily absorbed through the lungs than the stomach. However, cigs are much more of a valid concern for cadmium intake than pot but of course the producers would choose weed for more "shock value".
Cadmium in the soil mostly comes from mine waste water. Cadmium poisoning from weed could happen, but you would probably have to smoke multiple ounces of bud that grew downstream from a mine.
Indoor gardens aren't completely safe either though. Mined phosphorus, which is commonly used to produce fertilizers, often has traces of cadmium in it. It's not much that end up in the ferts you feed your plants with though, on average only around 0.5 parts per million. Some ferts have a lot more, some have less. On top of the low amount present in the fertilizers, less is absorbed by the plant and even less of that is absorbed as you smoke the bud. The build up in the body over time is what will get you.
Even though it's not the cult forum... if you wanna check heavy metal levels in ferts you commonly use, try here. Cali and Washington have sites like this as well.
