Taking forever for trics to turn
    #262704 - 08/10/09 04:01 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I started with some seeds that I found in a buddies hydro grow. One is a nice purple strain and the other is just a killer couchlocker. The problems I am having is I let them veg for way to long and now as a grown woman these are about 6 foot tall with branches so heavy they all have to be supported.
I went to radio shack and found a really great 40-100X microscope for like 10 bucks and have been keeping a eye on the trics to watch them turn. But right now I have some awesome looking plants that are 5 months old, and every single mushroom on those girls is either clearish or cloudy. Could I be doing something wrong that is causing them to take forever to turn? They were grown on dyna-bloom/ dyna-grow and I am using the 0-50-8 ka-ching to help them finish. The two girls have their own 600w HPS light and are in 5 gallon buckets filled with coir/verm and two inches of hydro rock in the bottom.
Plants look great, they are just taking forever to finish....

How many weeks have they been in flowering?

8 to 10 weeks is the average for most indoor strains.  I've heard of some SE Asian sativas that can take 12+ weeks in 12/12 to finish.  If the seeds were from a friend's grow it's unlikely it would be one of these, but perhaps the phenotypes just show more sativa traits.

It sounds like you're doing things right so just give it some more time to come around.  I enjoy more of a clean high so I usually chop around 20% clear, 60% cloudy, and 20% amber.  Gotta love those $10 radioshack scopes

pure sativa strains can take up to 16 weeks to mature in some cases.  What's the pistil coloration like on your plant?  At 5 months if your pistils are mostly orange I'd say you're pretty good to go. But then again, you've never posted your flowering times.  If my guess is right (2 months veg, 3 months flower), and your strain is heavier on the sativa side, you may still have a few weeks to go to hit the trich colors you want.

Right now I am looking at the inca and she is about 50/50 with her hairs being snow white and orange. The gonzo is darker with 80% hairs being red. They have been flowering for easily 10 weeks and veged for about 5. But once again I let these girls get wayyyyyy to big.
Nutes are good, Ph is good and I have no pests, just seemed like these girls were taking way to long to get those nice amber trichs. Once they start turning is it a pretty steep ride for the rest? Few will turn then poof most of the rest follow suit? And the gonzo one was so insane and it was a 30% amber when we smoked the plant the seeds came from. Im gonna try and let it simmer till I can get 50-70% amber and then I can lay in the hammock and watch the stars.

80% plant is definitely near harvest, if not ready to be chopped.

Other plant definitely needs a few more weeks.

cool, It was 80% of the hairs, not the trics though. The little mushrooms are still cloudy/clear.I hardly see any amber ones at all on it.
These girls were just so massive I didnt want to risk doing something wrong and losing them, or chopping early.
