The Ballsack's CFL ladies. (PICS!) * 1
    #251624 - 07/19/09 10:43 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Got about 250W (real watts) of CFL on two ladies and a buncha seedlings

I've got an indica phenotype of some Trainwreck that's growing christmas tree style, about 15" tall, and a more sativa pheno that I decided to scrog due to how stretchy it was. I wanted to keep it tied down to get better coverage with my CFL's.

So enough with the talking! some pics!

The seedlings; F2 of Master Kush x Orange Crush. This is kind of an experiment to see how things go when flowering straight from seed... never done it before

Scroggy McScraggles;

Sexy Pants;

Closeup of the indica pheno's main cola

One of the many budsites of the sativa

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that they're on about day 17 of flower. The scrogged one has been noticeably slower to flower without a doubt.

Did you train the scroged one before it went into flowering/scrog? I have noticed it usually takes them about a week to get situated into horizontal growth. But then they usually take off. Keep the pics coming.

yep, I topped it around the 4th node so it had 4 main branches, then continued training it for awhile to get it bushy and shaped right for the screen, then 4 days of veg growth under the screen before flowering.

So i hadn't noticed this yesterday, but apparently while I was gone this weekend my roomie didn't notice that one of the growth points stretched and touched the light.
This is only one of 4 main points on the scrogged plant, and it has a bunch of smaller budsites growing from lower on the main stems. Should I just cut off the burned part and hope the lower buds continue developing, or should I just leave it and see if it recovers?

And a couple more shots of the developing bud on the indica baby

Leave the burned part it wont hurt it any...I had that happen myself actually. It looks bad but it doesnt really hurt the plant that much.

2 weeks later, I come bearing more pictures!

day after tomorrow will be the beginning of the 6th week of 12/12. the nug on my main indica plant is close to a foot long, kind of hilarious, didn't mean for it to stretch so hardcore, but it's a mean ass nugget.

Scroggy Mcgee:

The seedlings, most are just starting to show sex. I've got one confirmed female and one already dead male. It's looking like I'm gonna be chopping two more tomorrow, but I'm gonna let you guys verify before I do anything rash :discorex:

First male, I'm about 99.9% on this one

This one might still be a bit too early to tell, but it's not looking good....

And a couple with a flash to better illustrate the crystaliness.

And a lower nug

pretty excited to see how sugary these ladies get come harvest time

Kinda sad though, out of my 4 strongest seedlings, 3 were male and the last hasn't shown sex yet. I hope I don't strike out completely  on the nice ones :frown:

Oh, and check out the new pic of the scrogged one, your were definitely correct about the burned part recovering with no issues. it's grown a good 2" above that point, nice beautiful nugget all the way to the top

it's not too late! I chopped the one that was def male, and had the second one set aside, but got distracted so it's sitting in my room right now, lol. maybe I should put it back in to find out for sure if it's femizzle.

When do you guys think I should start flushing? like I said, I flipped to 12/12 on the 1st of July, but I'm bad at estimating when a plant is 2 weeks from harvest, should I wait until half the hairs are red? 3/4?

Any other suggestions? I'm considering buying a UVB light for in there too....

This is codas method sorry for no pics they were removed.....

ok, so here's a couple of shots i found that i think are post worthy for the time being. I'll do a small pictorial of how i flushed my girls

First you need the right supplies

then you gather up your girls. You can see the nute problem in the upper leaves, notice how yellow they are compared to the older growth.

I took a 32 gallon rubbermaid, flipped on old one gal pot on its top side, then placed the girls pot on top of the on gal so that the water can drain into the rubbermaid. Then i flushed the girls with two gallons of distilled water a piece, you want to flush your plants so that the water runs clear at the end (also remember that you take the size of the pot and double it to figure out how much water to flush with). Two gallons seemed to do the trick with these girls, i think they could have taken another gallon, the water ran pretty much clear at the end of the second gallon.

the remains of the flush. Any excess salts, nutes, or buildup in those pots is now in that rubbermaid. I then slid the tub down the hall and drained it in my tub. Easy as pie, was a pain in the ass using all those individual gallons of water, but it did the trick. It doesn't seem like it but flushing four plants is a decent amount of work and time. I couldn't imagine having to do that to 20 or 30 plants.

So that's how i flush, here are some more random shots i took. All the macros are buds from lower branches. One of these days ill get a system worked out where i can take some nice pics of the top bud sites.

wait no, I know HOW to flush, I'm asking about when.

I'm not trying to completely remove all the nutrients from the medium, but with hydroponic growing you feed the plants nothing but water for the last 2 weeks or so otherwise your weed ends up tasting really harsh and "chemically"

Me personally. On my last harvest, when pistil grow seemed to slow greatly, and I was towards the end of my suggested flower time I kept an eye on the trichs.  When they were mostly cloudy(80-95%) I started watering normally. Kept the same schedule I had, just with no food. I only ended up watering it 4 times before harvest, and after proper drying, and 3 weeks in a jar, That White Widow 3 tasted and smelled fantastic. Long story short, As soon as most of the trichomes are cloudy to a few ambers, I would stop feeding.

I was talking about my preperation for harvest. Hydro is much easier. If your going for a 50/50 mix of amber/cloudy, when they're 20-30% amber, just change your nutrients for strait water or water with organic nutrients or water with molasses for about 4-5 days. Then its harvest ready.

oh, it's that quick? that'll be a snap. I'll be able to tell when they're a week away for sure. This is my first hydro grow so i was thinking about it taking the same flush time as soil, but with the faster growth of hydro, and psyched myself out.

I think I might take some more pictures tonight... they're so pretty I can't stop.

That is one of my favorite bonuses of hydro. The less than a week to flush cant be beat. When I harvested my WW2 sexing clone, I had to pull it from the tub and stick it in a fish bowl to flush and it was only in there for 24 hours. There was a slight nutrient taste, but nowhere near as bad as I suspected. But I do not recommend that short of a flush unless it is the best you can do.

I'm starting a dosage of Humboldt Gravity tonight, so I'd like to have these pics to compare the progress too

Also, does anyone know what's happening with those spots on the leaves in the last two pictures? they just started showing up in the last week or so, but I'm not sure what the deal is..... Mg deficiency?

don't want to scare you and not saying that this is what it is, but that was the first thing that happened at the beginning of my nutrient burn. Just a thought. You need to get the N way low towards the end of flowering.

And Integra, thanks for the info. I'm feeding these bitches HEAVY right now, so that could very well be the issue. I'll cut back a little bit and see if that helps.

what kind of lighting steup do you have? how many cfls? i'm using 2 100w-compared cfls at 6500 K and 3200 combined lumens. Is this enough for a 2' X2' space?

No man, That's a 2x2 space I've got and I have at least 6 or 7 of the lights you have plus 2 or 3 bulbs that are larger (can't remember).

I'll just take a pic tomorrow when I'm not so tired so you can see my setup

2x2 sucks man for real. IT can be done but if you can free up some space it makes life as a gardener easier 1 square foot at a time. But if all you got is 2x2 just watch your temps and read the scrog bible.

well these were taken about 3 days ago now, so I'd say probably about another 2 weeks or so right? I just picked up a scope to check out the trichs tonight so I can report back in more detail,  but I think they've got at least another 2-3 weeks to be fully mature.

https://files.growery.org/files/g09-33/996325921-P8100113.jpg

You'll notice the smaller side nugs are a little farther along than the main cola (as usual) but they only have about 40% red hairs, and the pistils are just starting to turn on the main cola....

oh, and just in case anyone is curious, gravity is THE SHIT!!!

only 3 days after the first application and it's already made a very noticeable improvement on the size and density of my buds. I'm expecting a rather serious increase in total yield if this keeps up

here ya go, I first fed this lady gravity at 1ml per gallon for 3 days, starting 6 days ago. then 1 day of flush, and 2 days of 1/4 strength nutes. check out how much larger this cola is already... it's a noticeable difference.

Before on the left, today on the right

pretty epic increase in density for only 6 days IMO

how much longer do you guys think it'll be until harvest?

usually about a week from when the pistils stop growing like crazy. I can be a little more(2 weeks) depending on the kind of high you want. But it's looking great. Your grow inspired me and a buddy to build a cfl tub grow for his closet. I would put pics up for you to see, but I'm out of space.

lookin tasty.

i think you're still a bit away from finishing.  all those pistils still look nice and new.  when they start drying up and turning orange, that's when you want to start watching the trichomes.

well there's a decent amount turning orange on the lower buds that are growing on side branches, so that's why I'm getting so excited (haha) but you're right about the main cola... only about 6 or 7 dead pistils out of about 1000

Furrowed: I raised them about a foot... but to be honest I'm not sure I needed to. I didn't see a single issue with the gravity, but I did feed them a pretty light dosage.

81ren: I haven't read much about bloombastic (atami is a subdivision of Advanced Nutrients right?) got any good links?

Mushbuddy: thanks friend, I'll be sure to keep you all posted.

you should all let me know if I post in this thread TOO often. I'm all excited about how tasty they are so I can't stop taking pictures... but I'll keep them to myself if they're getting repetitive

just noticed about 3 or 4 of the nugs on the very very ubottom of t he plant (under all the fanleaves and shite) have been pollinated. I can't see this on the main cola or any of the nice side buds I've posted pictures of, so I'm hoping I just got a couple pollinated sites and not the whole plant.

Plants often create a few stamens if introduced to stress... I fucked up my light cycle by a couple hours and now I have a bean or two per bud... Either way I don't really care, it's just a chance to continue the heritage of this particular strain; whatever it is.

Another week down, more pictures on the way right now

getting close, I'm thinking I'm going to do one more week on the non-trained plant, and then a week of flushing and then harvest. the scrogged one still needs more time, the very first of it's pistils are starting to turn, so about 3-4 more weeks I suppose. I'm excited for this one, I was expecting it to yield considerably less than the other one, but it's already got close to an ounce on it, and with a month left it's looking like it'll be a good harvest. Plus, it smells like lemons :crazy2:

you can still see a bit of the damage that was done when I burned it, but it's still looking pretty good.... seems to be rather unfazed by the stress.

Now on to the other one
the bottom nugs are starting to mature very nicely, check out the sexy swollen calyxes :naughty:

this is right at the base of the main cola... it's just such a frosty wonderland I couldn't help but take some pics

Guess that depends on what you're looking for.  I want to try to get a plant with 60% full amber trichs.  I really questioned myself on when i should start the flush on my first grow.  I think i ended up doing a 2 or maybe even 3 week flush.  So, hopefully, someone else will chime in with some good advice for us.

yeah, I kinda surprised myself as well. I had pretty low expectations for these CFL's but I just kinda wanted to see what could happen with ample light quantities.... came out pretty nice.

I was gonna start the flush for these babies in a couple days, but in the last 72 hours or so the fan leaves have all started to yellow and about 20% of the trichome heads are approaching amber so last night was the first night of watering with nothing but molasses. I'm gonna flush it for at least a week, possibly more depending on what the plant tells me.

anyhow, stay tuned... harvest pics are on the way!

I will guess 28 grams.  So hard to tell the density of the buds.

well the density is pretty good as far as I can tell. I clipped a little tester side nug this morning, and the bastard weighs nearly 9 grams fresh (after trim).... we'll have to see when it dries, but looks to be pretty dense.

I think I want to change my final weight guess!   looks nice and dank.  You tell us how it is after it's cured and all.  This isn't your first grow is it?

oh no. and more importantly than how many harvests I've had, is how many friends I've helped set up and grow a few harvests. I think you learn more from teaching because you need the why as much as the how

that tester nug I clipped gets me very high for a good 3 hours, so I'm thinking with an extra 3-4 days of growth plus proper curing that bud is going to be stoney

Looks great Harry. Make sure you post that final weight. I think I'll be pretty close. I'm gona put up cured bud shots later tonight, but since I cant upload them here, they wont be as good of quality as I'd like for finished product shots. Yours looks fantastic, and is the best looking cfl grow I've seen, and I've seen a lot. Truely good work.
