First of all, I know that the administration has been working their ass off to launch this site. And I get the feeling that your holding back, with the intention of evolving with the site as it grows.
Props for that, I love the angle. And I think the site is a good idea and looks great.
I know the site as it stands now is a beta, with that in mind I think there might be some benefit in toning it down a little bit (theme wise). Potheads are somewhat paranoid by nature and this theme is a little in your face.
There is a certain comfort in cruising sites like ICMAG because they have a laid back professional layout (other than the background which is easily dealt with by resizing the window). Something about big bongs being beside each topic is a little in your face about what your reading. Not only that, but the dark colors just seem a little 'shady' to begin with, and im trying to speak from the perspective of someone browsing while other people are around.
Id like to see a more professional looking layout at first glance, and then let the people that like to be a little less private choose to dress their theme up with bongs and MJ leafs and whathaveyou. I think this would make a better first impression on established cultivators that wanted to open up and contribute to our community. From the prospective of pro growers, who have risky elaborate set-ups in their house, trust is going to be important. I wonder if they will think the growery comes off as a bit childish…

I agree about the bongs, however you can change the color scheme to any of the UBB color schemes that were available on the shroomery.

yea but do you like this as the default color scheme? I'm talking about first impressions. Not what is possible, that stuff is for established users.

I think it has a bit too much clutter.
Its hard for me to navigate through everything cuz its all unorganized.
I know its in beta, but just my 2 cents.

We're using the bongs as new post identifiers because we had them available from our Shroomery 420 theme. Ideally we'd have a pot leaf as the identifier (which wouldn't really address your concern anyway), but it's difficult to get a pot leaf as a small .gif with smooth edging. We are listenin' to all suggestions, but please don't feel bad if they are not implemented immediately - there's a lot of stuff to address at the moment.
It doesn't sound far fetched to use a "work theme" for the Growery, but as for that being the default theme, I say nuts to that. I do understand your point, but we're not in the business of attracting people who want to browse the website at work or in front of their parents, we're proud of our content and subject matter, and I can't personally get on board with an attempt to hide it, even if that does cost us a few new paranoid members.

i agree. there should be other themes (if there aren't any already) but i like this one as default.
