they brought us the TI-89 calculator, massive erection right thurrr
and they defined the quantum dot
Quote:
a semiconducting crystal nanotechnology. Quantum dots confine electrons, holes, electron-hole pairs, or excitons to zero dimensions to a region on the order of the electrons' Compton wavelength. This confinement leads to discrete quantized energy levels and to the quantization of charge in units of the elementary electric charge e. Quantum dots are particularly significant for optical applications due to their theoretically high quantum yield. Quantum dots have also been suggested as implementations of a qubit for quantum information processing.

do you have any idea what any of that means?

LSD has the potential to counter the psychological problems induced by materialism, alienation from nature through industrialization and increasing urbanization, lack of satisfaction in professional employment in a mechanized, lifeless working world, ennui and purposelessness in wealthy, saturated society, and lack of a religious, nurturing, and meaningful philosophical foundation of life. -Albert Hoffman

dude imagine an organism/virus/nanobot so simple it can use electrons as an individual source of energy and matter to self replicate.

that would mean it can eat ANYTHING would be near 100% efficient and would destroy everything and continue to live off itself and whatever it touches.

****
full disclosure: that was the only thing i liked about that movie.

something to do with being able to make systems precise at an electron level. this has far reaching applications beyond improving virtually every device that measures anything...

i think
