    #156225 - 12/05/08 05:26 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

hey so right now i have two 6500k color temp 40w shop lights and two 2700k, i wanted to get two more 2700k but couldnt find them anywhere , so i got two 3000k instead.  will they be good for flowering or should i try to get the 2700k, im about a week and a half from the start of flowering, but i wanted to add the extra light sooner, so what should i do?

thanks for the reassurance, lol come to think of it my other 2 lights might also be 3000k instead of 2700k.

kelvin scale is the light spectrum, the lower the # (2700k) emits red, while higher (5700-6000) is in the blue spectrum

look up  color spectrum on google or wiki and the bottom is the degrees in kelvin

heh yeah i thought about that but don't really feel like going through the hassle of buying the lights online, anyway 3000k should be good for flowering as well.

6000k-6500k for vegging, 2500k-3000k for flowering, ive been vegging with four 4' tubes, two 3000k and two 6500k, and my plants are doing pretty damn good

Yea I thought about using a metal halide and a hps for veg and flower.Wouldnt that be better than just using 1 for each?cause in my mind its getting both at the same time in nature. But I dont read anything about anyone using both.Doea it not make that much difference??(sorry if I thread jacked)

it's cool i got my question answered
this is only my first time growing so i dunno if u wanna take my advice, but i'd start with the blue spectrum and then after a week or two add the hps

unlike some people say plants do absorb red light during vegging as well, just not as much as during flowering so vegging with both is a good idea

my plants have been doing great under only 160w of fluorescent tubes, and i just added another 80w, i'll be updating my grow log tomorrowish if i find the time

marijuana flowers in the end of summer beginning of autumn, and the days are longer and the sun has a more reddish hue to it, though we may not notice it, the plants react differently to it.  When flowering, intense red light is used to promote the plants natural instinct to flower and the blue would kinda get in the way and be a power issue; you can buy HPS bulbs that have +30% blue spectrum, don't waste your electricity like that I would say

take the time and spend the $$$ on saving up for a MH conversion bulb or MH setup, you'll love the results!!!

CFLs don't penetrate the canopy like an HID does, trust me though you can veg in CFLs never flower in CFL, you will waste your time on getting reggies @ $15+ a month on your electric bill.  Cost effective maybe, depending on plants, but i want dank @ $15 a mo!! lol

i'm using tubes, not cfl

and yeah i realize that HID is better, but i don't feel like ordering them online and they didn't have any high wattage ballasts at home depot, so we'll see what happens, if they work shitty i'll know better next time
