How Vital to Mushies is light
    #120705 -

SWIM is planning to use a large cooler for his/her first grow of mushies and was wondering how vital light was to mushie growth. From what I've gathered, obviously photosynthesis isn't happening because its a fungi but I've been told that it helps the fruiting process. I was just wondering exactly how vital it was that i have lighting on them?

Also would led's work for this?

ive heard that ze cubens need a light to start fruiting, though im not sure thats true or not.
I know that the fungi needs some light to know which direction to grow in though. Like the moon

That would make sense i guess but would a led work for this im trying to think of ways to not have to use anything but a large cooler for fruiting

Indirect light is what you want, especially to induce pinning. If it's enough to read by, it's enough.

Don't really need it during colonizing, but you gotta have some light to fruit.

the light does nothing more than stimulate pin production and give direction to the fruits. I grew a monotub and gave it no more than an hour of light per day and got one of the best yields of my life.

No just thought it would be easier to get a answer here and support this forum. Alright so if i put a light at the edges of a box would that somewhat attract them to that direction thinking its upwards toward the sky?

Yes. If you go over to the Shroomery you can see where RogerRabbit tested this with MH and HPS and the mushrooms actually bent up out of the tub and over the sides trying to get to the MH that was on. The HPS didn't do as much.

Hmm i wonder what spectrum's are most effective for that.

Also back to my question L.E.D's would be sufficient for this then ?

Beatyou-no, I'm just attracted to shiny new things... like this forum

Freepain, higher frequency light is better for shrooms, but within the visible spectrum (ie, blue). Don't waste your time going to ultraviolet or anything for ultra low wavelength.
