Smallest usable wattage
    #1171 - 04/20/08 01:30 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I wonder what the smallest light I could feasible use, and get something out of it, would be?

100w but I would not reccomend it. I dont know why people want to risk their freedom to produce a plant with tiny fluffy popcorn buds. It just isn't worth the risk to me.

Do yourself a favor and buy a HPS. Any HPS will be better than 'the smallest light'. A 250w hps would be a great way to start.

How many plants or space would that support?

If you are a handy man you can buy small (70-250W) HPS and MH flood lights and rewire them as remote ballasts.

http://www.e-conolight.com/Product/EProducts.asp?ProductFamilyID=3

A little google search on how to wire a flood light to a remote ballast should pull up sufficient info.

Thanks for that link!  I thought that place went down awhile back.  Great prices.

In the grow journals section I've seen a few people using CFLs with pretty intriguing results. Maybe some of them could chime in on the differences they experience.

Even something as small as 35w can grow a single plant.

I'm using two cfl's right now. I'm only growing 2 plants but they seem to be pretty effective. One is flowering the other is vegging. I was just more focused on my budget, and lumens/light spectrum/cost wise: cfl's were the way to go.

I do quite well using CFLs. I don't think many ppl realise how far they have come in the last couple of years. They are def worth looking into.

EG, lets see some pics of your harvested CFL buds.

I definetly know you can grow 'decent' buds using CFL's but you do need quite a few to make it worthwhile.

If your question is about watts, like the title of the thread, then LEDs.

If your question is otherwise directed, it is akin to asking 'how shitty can the weed be that i grow?', and in that case, id say, pretty fucking shitty.

It'd be interesting to see some charts of the light spectrum for CFLs and LED's compared to HPS, MH, and etc. Maybe I'll have luck searching for them later, if so, I'll post them and maybe try to create an article for the main site or something.

Don't HPS lights use a lot of electricity?

Well, I guess a fridge uses like 2000 watts, so a 400 watt HPS shouldn't be too bad.

I don't have a cam, sorry. I wish I did. Anyhow 2.5 oz (approx) a pop, on a 125w CFL.
