Also, if you like Dr. Gonzo, you should know that he was based on a real person.

And that real person was fuckin' pissed at being portrayed as Samoan.

Oscar Zeta Acosta was a Chicano lawyer in the revolutionary '60s.  At the time, hispanics were considered "white" legally, so their schools could be segregated, not subject to Brown vs the Board of Education.  Acosta changed that.  He also did a lot of acid and peyote.

Anyone interested in Dr Gonzo would do well to read Diary of A Brown Buffalo, and Revolt of the Cockroach People, two sutobiographical novels by Acosta.

We are always acting on what has just finished happening. It happened at least 1/30th of a second ago. We think we're in the present, but we aren't. The present we know is only a movie of the past.

“You see this glass bong?” asks Achaan Chaa, the Thai meditation master. “For me this glass is already broken. I enjoy it; I smoke out of it. It holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. If I should tap it, it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put this glass bong on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, ‘Of course.’ When I understand that the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious.”[/quote]

Great pictorial book illustrating his life very well.

He was such a legend. Have they just canceled the Rum diary's movie? That book was brilliant. I read it about 4 times cause it was the only book I had in France for a month.

They're not all Hunter S's books surely. I want to read Hell's angels next. Started reading On the Campaign trail, was pretty terrible really. he wasn't happy with it himself though.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

What was up with that guy runnin around sayin"does anybody want any LSD? I got all the makings right here. All I need is a place to cook."?

I would have appreciated the movie more if it was more accurate about drugs. Oh man and what about that adrenochrome bullshit? I know HST loved to bend the truth a little to make for a good story but cmon!

That movie doesn't accurately portray his lifestyle, the majority of the novel Fear And Loathing isn't true.
He didn't want to be recognised by people as the character of himself, more his writing which is just incredible stuff.

Fear and loathing the movie is one of my all time favorite movies ever!

Fear and loathing The book is like 9000000000 times better than the movie. It really is a must read. It's lough out load funny. The book is way better AFTER you've seen the movie. That way you can kind of imagine how the scenes looked, how the characters moved, and how things generally acted out. Without the visual aid of the movie I could see some people being totally clueless to whats going on just because of the shear insanity of it all.
