You know what would really be a slap in the face to society?
If the degree of regulation imposed on a drug was proportional to its actual health risks and propensity for social detriment.
Because that would mean that basically everything would have to be less regulated than alcohol. And ain't no way in fuck they're making alcohol illegal again.

They would have to make most drugs legal to adults, as they should be. Won't happen as long as special interests have such influence over government policy though.. Also on the other end to legalize all drugs would mean people would have to take personal responsibility for the choices they make, government would have to stop trying to be nanny and let people live with the choices they make without being bothered or babied, for better or for worse for the person making the choice but its not for anyone to decide but himself.

Dude's serving a 20-year sentence for LSD manufacture.
He's currently challenging the current British drug policy, as it defaults on the obligation to protect public health and welfare, by exempting alcohol and tobacco from the legal restrictions imposed on everything else by their 1971 law. He has a solid legal case here, though it's not likely to get him out of prison any sooner.
