Using aerogarden for germination
    #853805 - 12/15/21 06:47 PM (2 years, 3 months ago)

I have an AeroGarden that I'm currently using to germinate different seeds during winter time. The food solutions seems to work for most of the vegetable seeds, poppy, etc. Roots are very strong.

Have you try to germinate marijuana seeds using an AeroGarden?

I have not but have you heard of the paper towel trick?

Yes, I've read about paper towel trick or using rock-wool cube.

Seedlings(for other plants) that are coming from AeroGarden are stronger and bigger that ones created by other methods. Maybe the root growth hormones added to the solutions and good lighting are helping them. Germination rates are closed to 80-90%. When using AeroGarden, after germination you could leave the seedlings for a while to grow instead of transplanting them right away.

Marijuana seeds are expensive at 10 CAD/seed so anything that can improve the odds for growing a nice plant are welcomed.

That last part is super true, totally. Right on sounds like really cool tech. I'm still in an arrogant cave phase of bag soil + coir and other organic additives. I couldn't even get aeroponic cloners to work, had super super low success rate vs just sticking cuts into soil with formula. But again that's me being super noob haha.

I'm also trying to keep things as simple as possible, with organics, so without involving too much tech. It's the best path to get beautiful plants.

I literally always just plop mine in some indoor potting soil and give a tiny bit of water every now and then and they always germinate for me that way

What kind of soil do you prefer?

I have a green thumb so I literally get whatever when I'm out lol. I'm an outdoor grower so the soil I use to germinate doesn't really matter too much to me as they will all be going outside anyway

I would think it should work but I can't really tell how the seed is held in place. Seems like sometype of pod/tube with peat moss?  I always liked rockwool cubes and a simple wick setup with perlite.

I can say that the aero garden should work really well for clones if you can fashion a rubber plug to hold the cutting.

My model comes with 6 plastic pods where you can insert a spongy cone. Seeds are inserted inside the spongy cone. Spongy cone creates a humid environment around the seed, very good for germination.  During germination, pods are covered with an humidity transparent plastic dome.

Water(with a growth solution) is sprayed on these pods on a schedule, so it's a mini hydroponic solution. Led lights are ON for 16 hours.

Pods & sponges can be bought separately https://www.amazon.com/AeroGarden-Grow-Anything-Seed-Pod/dp/B082QXN4Z1/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=aerogarden+pods&qid=1639945051&sr=8-6. Pods can be reused multiple times.

For clones, I think that the plastic pods are probably good enough to keep the plant in correct place because of the bottom.

Right on.  Sounds like it should work. The ezcloner is a very similar setup and they work really well from my friends experience. These are the collars that are used, I bet you could make one fit in the aerogarden for cloning once you found a mom. Fyi you can take clones during flower which is convient as you know sex. Week 2 or 3 during the stretch is a great time as you would be trimming lower shoots off so pop em in the cloner and they will be ready to go into flower by the time you chop the round from seed, you could easily do a perpetual grow with the aero as your clone and veg stage

You can replace the solution that comes with aerogarden with something better suited for marijuana(used in hydroponic setups).
