dealing with high ppm water.

so today i tested my water and the EC was .5 or .6 (i was aiming for .5 after adding nuts). this drastically limits the amounts of nuts i can give without risking salt buildup correct? (this is in my dwc setup by the way) i added half the recommended amounts of nutrients for cuttings and seedling and my ec was at 1.8. after that i diluted it to .8 which took adding a shit load of water, added some kelp and further diluted it back to .8. is there any option besides biting the bullet and buying an RO filter? i feel like besides the kelp im barely getting any ppm's of actual nutrients in my solution while keeping it within a reasonable EC level.
