Well, if you do it properly, you'll produce viable seeds of a hybrid strain.

Is there anything specific that you are thinking of crossing? :strokebeard:

It is all determined on the level of the chromosomes. Gregor Mendel had a lot to say on the subject.

Well, a good cross of strains should usually produce some nice hybrid vigor. You'd definitely, of course, want two, select parents that display some great characteristics to be continued further, usually in an attempt to bring together more great traits into one plant. When it comes time to run the seeds you've produced, you're going to want to commit to growing out a lot of them, because there will, quite likely, be a good variation of phenotypes, since different alleles will combine differently in different plants, and only certain ones will be the prized ones.

If you were really committed to developing your own strain, you'd probably want a large perpetually vegetative state room to keep mothers and fathers from various steps in the breeding process, so you're able to stabilize the strain, while being more able to prevent taking stabilization too far into inbreeding. Of course, there's nothing wrong with just being casually interested. The fun thing about it is that you could really think about everything you personally like about pot and combine it all in one joint.

It possible. If you ever had to do those genotype/phenotype square things in biology you get some idea of what they hell is going to happen. Simple example is brown eyes vs blue eyes in humans. If you have two brown eyed people (we'll say the brown eyed gene which is dominant is B and the blue eyed gene which is recessive is b). Now they have the dominant brown eyed gene but they also have the recessive blue eyed gene. So both parents have the gene Bb (where if there is a large B in the mix it smites the little b which is recessive). You would have something like this
    B    b
B  BB    Bb

b  Bb    bb

Which means you would have a 1/4 chance of having a blue eyed child. It got to be a wicked sick problem when you have three, four, five gene pairs to create numerous types of offspring.

So to answer you're question, your plants could potentially have awesome offspring or you could get the equivalent of an autistic midget with a split lip for a plant.

If someone could please check me on this. It's been a while since my last biology course .
