Idk, good question. My mate and I were, however just talking yesterday in a similar vein and have at least come to consensus that FISH seems to be a very "meant to eat" animal...

I have a micronesan friend and he casually mentioned what they do back home is make a big fire, get drunk, kill a dog, and bake it in the coals.
Get drunk -> eat dog. Just a local past-time, no big deal for him or the other people from his area. Nothing unusual for someone to be like 'hey dude, we're gonna pick up a dog sometime this week, wanna come over for dinner and some drinks?'
ps, he had no comment on cats, I guess that's just not a thing. He did say medium sized dogs made for the best eating though - too big or too small and they don't taste right or will be too tough/stringy.

It's all cultural.
There was this Chinese food place I ate at, the only one in a really big area,
and I really liked their crispy beef, but the texture was a bit off.
Nevertheless, it was quite good.
Now there was this nearby place, with a bunch of feral cats running around
every which way.
Time passes, and these cats dwindle in number. Now mind you, this
area was devoid of any predators of our feline friends here...
The Chinese restaurant was shut down due to serving cat.
I think I definitely ate some cat meat, LOL.
And... and... It tastes good. Fuck, it tastes good, guys.
But I would never knowingly eat cat meat, or dog meat. Only if my life
depended on it, but if it was a pet, no way.

I think this is what we are trying to pick apart.. it is very cultural. But what does or doesn't break that mold, and why?
Like we usually abstain from eating horses, I'm guessing bc of their utility?
Generally speaking though we will eat it ALL if hungry enough.

I was under the impression that horse was popular in certain parts of Europe, but I see your point.
Frankly I just think cat would taste gross, and be all stringy.

I could definitely eat a horse, even though I think horses are pretty cool. But supposedly their meat is quite good. There's a reason that cowboy killed his horse when he got hungry.
Now as to Asians, and their killing of cats, dogs, and basically everything else, I mean WTF? Sicko culture. It just isn't normal. China in particular, I mean WTF? Their delusion of food and what is "good" is just the beginning of that twisted sicko culture. They don't stop burning coal and polluting the shit out of that country soon they will have to take over Australia next and kill some aborigines for fucking dinner at the same time.

An asia chick tricked me into eating cat once, didn't taste bad at all. I didn't know until she burst out laughin and said "I didn't know you ate cat!".
