thoughts on first time dwc

I'm considering building a dwc setup to grow my autoflower. I'm brand new to it and started researching a little. So I'm gonna toss my rough draft out there, and if anyone sees a problem please let me know.

I'm wanting to use a 5 gallon bucket with about 4-4.5 gallons of solution. Also I'm using cfl lighting for the entire grow as buying new lights is too costly at the moment. Some questions I need answered are, what size net cups to use? What air pump would b best for the bucket setup, as far as how powerful do I need? Which or what kind of airstones are going to give me the smaller bubbles, which I read is ideal. Will my maxigro and maxibloom powdered nutrients be OK to use? Lastly, would hydrtron medium be good, and if so, is there a specific size pellet I should aim for?

Any size that holds enough hydroton to support the plant.

I use a whisper 5500 and it works for 2 buckets 5 gallons each

The guy at the hydro store can help ya with that. I just used 6 inch stones from the pet store. I don't believe in all the goofy shit they try to sell ya and the crap they try to tell you. Experiment and learn is the best way.

They will work with any method of growing. I'm currently using them in my flood and drain system. (Which is what I would recommend to somebody new cause when the plants get big you have no idea how much work your in for when those root systems are filling most of the bucket.)

Yeah it's good but as far as I know hydroton is out of business but I'm sure your referring to the clay rocks themselves.

Here is a little secret for everybody

Hydroton and all the clay pebbels sold on the market are actually called Leca. So the name of the little clay rocks we use in flood and drain is Leca. "So fucking what Magash why do we give a shit about the name Leca?". The reason is if you go to a cement supply company and ask for Leca you can get it for about 25% the cost of a hydro store. :tongue:
