Electrical Panels?
    #739289 -

Any suggested reading on amperage requirements, gauge wiring needing, so on if I wanted to assemble a panel for 6 240volt outlets and a couple 120 outlets with an intermatic analog timer? And any safety equipment like overload or overheat shut off?

This is a great guide to wiring your house.  Easy to read and understand.

Circuit breakers are inherently designed to have overload mechanisms.  It's the whole point of a circuit breaker.  Now as far as overheating, you just need to calculate how much you are drawing on each circuit, and make sure you aren't overloading it.

Killer ill grab one today from the hd by my place. Would there be any "commercial" or "industrial" measures when adding panels that will be under up to 8000w that may not be covered in a home improvements type guide? Or is it all pretty general in terms of principle?

It's a standard principle.  You will need to make sure you have open circuit slots on your panel though.  Otherwise you will have to install a subpanel, which is a huge pain in the ass.
