Soil Nutrients Help
    #738373 - 06/30/14 12:05 PM (9 years, 8 months ago)

I Have Started Growing Some Plants On My Windowsill As The Weather Is Hot And Seems Like A Perfect Time.
I Have Neutralised The Soil And Was Wondering If Anybody Anybody Could Help Me.
I Have Purchased Some Worm Castings To Use As Fertilizer And Also Have Purchsed Some Lime Garden In Order To Try Neutralize The Acid Durig Growth.
I Was Wondering If Anybody Could Assist Me In The Proper Use Of These Products For Growing. Thank You

If it were me I would have mixed them into the soil before I started growing. I'm pretty sure for the lime, you can just rake it into the top few inches of the soil. And for the castings, use them to make a tea and fertilize with the tea.

well did u check the ph of the soil first? cause if the soil ph is fine then there is no need to add the lime to adjust the soil. also you could just flush the it with ph adjusted water wich would be easier.

For worm castings you can mix it in with the top of most soils at maybe 1/3 the amount of soil your putting it into or probably a lot less depending what other nutrients you're using. You could also poke holes and fill them with some worm castings, like a plant spike.

I try to use lime only if I absolutely need to. mostly just if I'm putting a bunch of peat in a soil mix. I'd recently read that coir can have PH balancing effect and keep PH from getting too low, not sure how effective it is tho. I'd say don't use any lime if youre using only organic stuff. You don't want to balance the PH of all-organic grows since theres all sorts of micro organisms and interactions going on that balance the PH to where they need it and can be thrown out of whack by lime or PH adjusting stuff. My explanation isn't exactly accurate =P

Btw you probably want something besides worm castings for potassium and phosphorus. I know you can find bat guano that has the other stuff you need and probably has micronutrients.
